Gears of War 4 Review – All Guts, All Glory, All Gears

Gears of War 4 has finally arrived and with it comes some big shoes to fill. It's been five years since Gears of War 3, the last mainline entry in the 10-year-old franchise. The large shadow left from Epic Games' original Gears of War trilogy on Xbox 360 is tough to escape.

Great graphics; Sound and tone; Likable characters; Awesome action; Fun multiplayer

AI companions sometimes get in the way; Story ends abruptly

Gears Of War 4 Review – The Worthy Successor Fans Have Been Waiting For

Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. The world has been ravaged and is slowly recovering from the grip of war and the unstable power source called imulsion. The COG have reformed, but keep a close eye on their people in gathered colonies.

Gears of War 4 Review

Gears of War 4 is, in many, many ways, a true throwback to where it all began. It's as close to Gears 1 as any of the other games in the series, outside of Judgement because of the lead character difference.

Gears of War 4 review

Chris powers up the PC version of Gears of War 4.

Great graphics and gun play with buttery performance; The new protagonists are a welcome change from the overblown gruff stoicism of previous games; Horde mode is worth the admission price alone and there is even split-screen on PC

Gunplay and close quarters combat suffers when not relying on the cover mechanic; Feels far too familiar in places; Occasional very long lobby wait times on PC; Needless micro-transactions in a premium game feel greedy

The Gears of War franchise has cemented itself as one of the premier franchises of the past generation. During a time when cover-based shooters haven't made their oversaturated march on the gaming world, Gears of War was a revelation.

Exciting new characters and story | Wonderfully refined gameplay | Fresh new weapons and mechanics | Excellent modes that will keep you occupied for many hours | Excellent visuals and sound design

Narrative has some glaring holes | Some campaign environments can get repetitive | Microtransaction focused upgrade system in Horde

Gears will always be one of my top couch co-op choices. While the story fairly quickly starts retreading ground there are still elements at play that make for possible interesting plot points later in the series.

Gears of War 4 [Xbox One] campaign review: a new Fenix rises

It's been a long, hard road out of hell, but the story of Marcus Fenix and his fight against the Locusts has come to an end. Now, Microsoft has released a new chapter in the Gears of War saga; the start of a new trilogy of games.

Directly adjacent to the Danger Zone.

After being ported and rebooted many, many times since its initial release way back in 1980, Atari's classic first-person hover tank shooter may have at last reached its final form.

Classic formula naturally translates to VR; Movement and aiming function smoothly; Wide selection of unlockable weapons and tanks; Combat works well with a team

Playing solo forces you to play the campaign in a way that undermines the fun; Enemy AI is dull and predictable; No competitive multiplayer
