Garmin Rino 650

As soon as we were aware there was a GPS device we still hadn't tested, we tracked a copy down and took it for a few hour spin. Our most favorite GPS has to be Garmin's 530hcx. The irony of that is that the product we tested for this review also belongs to Garmin. Which called it Rino 650.

Garmin Rino

Great product. There are a few things I would change, as in any relatively complex item. It would be nice if it kept constant tabs on the people in your group, it only tells you where they are when they update it. Unless we did not understand how it worked, which is a possibility.

Excellent Product

I am not sure why so many people say they don't work. I believe that it is user error or lack of knowledge. Do you people know that depending on your channel you can only be using 1/2 watt of power? That applies to texting and locating other units.

VERY DISSAPOINTING

When my rino 120 finally died thru no fault of its own ( i broke the antennae off), I decided to replace it with a current version. Many of my friends have been using rinos over the years, most with trouble free operation.

Rino 650

Took it on a 5 day elk hunt in NW Montana and loved it. Was very easy to use, picked up satelites quickly even in heavy cover. Battery life was great lasted about 3 days on one charge, would recommend the AA battery pack for back up, need to get that ordered next.
Pros:
  • Great GPS for the money
Cons:
  • pre-loaded maps
