Fujifilm X-S1 review
My first ‘proper' digital camera was a Fujifilm FinePix S7000. At the time I bought it, I had used film SLRs for years but was not quite ready to take the leap and buy an expensive DSLR.

The Fujifilm X-S1 is a high-end bridge camera aimed at the gap between superzooms and DSLRs.

Always liked the idea of an all-in-one camera with a massive zoom capability, but hated the often all too-plastic feel?

Fujifilm X-S1
The bridge camera market proved pretty buoyant in 2011, which just goes to show that these chunky cameras with their fixed but powerful zoom lenses still appeal to the general public.
Pros:
- Precise
- pleasant-to-use EVF
- Good general responsiveness
- RAW mode
- Excellent finish
- Good manual zoom
- Picture quality up to 1600 ISO
- Interesting EXR modes
Cons:
- Autofocus is a touch slow at telephoto settings in low light
- Heavy
- Image freezes slightly when focusing
- Picture quality could be better at mid-range zoom settings

Fujifilm X-S1
The Fujifilm X-S1 is no ordinary superzoom. It has a 12-megapixel, 2/3in sensor that's far larger than what you'd normally find in a compact camera for starters. As much as the X-S1 is considered a "compact" – often described as a "bridge" or "superzoom" camera – it's far from small scale.
Pros:
- Great electronic viewfinder
- images are great (save for specular highlight issue)
- decent build
- manual zoom and focus rings
Cons:
- Specular highlights can morph into white dots
- autofocus not all it could have been

Fujifilm X-S1
The X-S1 continues Fuji's push into premium camera territory through its X-series range. Within this range we've already seen the fixed-lens X100 with its cutting edge hybrid-viewfinder and the super-stylish and more pocket-friendly X10 .
Pros:
- Manually operated zoom
- Larger than average 2/3inch sensor
- Good quality electronic viewfinder
- Much better image quality than most superzooms
Cons:
- Slight sluggish AF at long telephoto
- Slow shot to shot time
- Doesn't match image quality of DSLR or CSC
