Fujifilm X-S1

The bridge camera market proved pretty buoyant in 2011, which just goes to show that these chunky cameras with their fixed but powerful zoom lenses still appeal to the general public.
Pros:
  • Precise
  • pleasant-to-use EVF
  • Good general responsiveness
  • RAW mode
  • Excellent finish
  • Good manual zoom
  • Picture quality up to 1600 ISO
  • Interesting EXR modes
Cons:
  • Autofocus is a touch slow at telephoto settings in low light
  • Heavy
  • Image freezes slightly when focusing
  • Picture quality could be better at mid-range zoom settings

Always liked the idea of an all-in-one camera with a massive zoom capability, but hated the often all too-plastic feel?

Fujifilm X-S1 review

My first ‘proper' digital camera was a Fujifilm FinePix S7000. At the time I bought it, I had used film SLRs for years but was not quite ready to take the leap and buy an expensive DSLR.

Fujifilm X-S1 review

Fujifilm is producing some of the best super zooms and premium end compacts around just now. This may just have something to do with the fact that, unlike Canon and Nikon, it doesn't have any DSLRs of its own.
Pros:
  • Solid build quality
  • Very broad focal range
  • Large electronic viewfinder
Cons:
  • Pricey
  • Bulky and heavy
  • Soft results at maximum zoom

The more we used this camera, the more we started enjoying it. Everything from the sound of the shutter release to the robust yet comfortable feel, and the extensive image control we had, ticked the many boxes we would have when taking out a DSLR.

Fujifilm X-S1 review Review

Critics may cite the fact that the X-S1 lacks a detachable lens as a failing, but that's shortsighted. The removable lens arrangement is one of the biggest drawbacks of a proper dSLR, as every time you swap it for an alternative barrel, you risk introducing dust to the sensor.
Pros:
  • Long zoom
  • Subtle muted scenes
  • Punchy colourful images
  • Fine detail in shots
Cons:
  • None

Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera Review

It really excites me to see that traditional camera bodies are coming back into the marketplace and at affordable prices. Whilst the X Pro 1 is more expensive than other options it is certainly not overpriced when you consider the sensor, image quality and the ability to choose from a range of sharp...
