Fujifilm X-Pro1 review

With almost every major manufacturer, save mysteriously Canon, now offering a mirror-less compact with a larger than average sensor and on which the lens can be swapped for near digital SLR (DSLR) quality, Fuji has belatedly joined the fray.
Pros:
  • Stunningly high build quality will tempt those who may have been lusting after an even more expensive Leica rangefinder camera
  • plus we love the extremely high resolution LCD and EVF/optical viewfinder
Cons:
  • The priciest Compact System Camera (CSC) out there
  • auto focus a little sluggish especially during video recording
  • rear LCD not angle adjustable
  • EVF provides more accurate view than optical finder

Fujifilm X-Pro1

The 16.3 effective megapixel Fuji X-Pro1 camera has barely left our side for the past two weeks. And it's not purely because, with its sturdy high-end enthusiast metal build, plus Leica M8/M9-alike rangefinder styling, it is the sort of camera once bought you certainly want to show off.
Pros:
  • Full manual photographic control
  • Leica-like construction that feels solid enough to withstand a war
  • very high resolution LCD and sensor activated EVF/optical viewfinder too
Cons:
  • The high-end price tag
  • rear LCD not angle adjustable
  • AF slow to snap back into focus if adjusting framing when shooting video

Great retro camera

This is camera that you need to get to know. Once you are there it produces great results. It compliments my Nikon D700 and replaces my D200 as a back up for location work and street photography.
Pros:
  • Great Features
  • Great Picture Quality
  • Lightweight
  • Retro Styling
  • Simple Controls
Cons:
  • Some Bits Are Flimsy

If you're serious about photography though, and you're looking for a new rig, I'd recommend this in a heartbeat. It's a sturdy, well-built camera that holds its own with the big boys and delivers near flawless images almost every time, and it looks great to boot!
Pros:
  • Its hybrid viewfinder and fresh stills-centric setup
  • together with its excellent image quality and almost unmatched styling.
Cons:
  • The biggest obstacle is selecting the right lens at the right time
  • If you're too slow changing a lens, or you initially choose the wrong one, you may just miss that perfect moment in time and lose an epic shot

So I have used several compact cameras in the past, NEX 5/7, OMD EM-5, Olympus Pens and maybe a few I have forgot about. They all seem to have some flaw or quirk I just never could get past. With the NEX series was the lens size. The high end lenses were just to big or lagged in focus.
Pros:
  • Ergonomics
  • awesome lenses
  • improved auto focus
  • ease of use in manual and very good image quality
Cons:
  • Easy to knock it in the on position when putting it away draining battery, Exposure compensation easily changed
  • lack of a way for a wireless shutter or time lapse

Mirrorless camera

Most important feature for me is its stunning low light capabilities. Shoot into a dark closet on auto ISO and the closet is perfectly lit as if in daylight.Learning curve steep and there are significant differences from DSLR.Not smaller or lighter than some DSLRs.
Pros:
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • Good in Low Light
Cons:
  • Awfully Expensive
  • Short Battery Life

I gave my XP1 above average ratings but honestly though i'd buy it again. It has its quirks with focusing interesting dial placement but Fuji was able to improve (steadily) on most of it's faults. Focusing is a lot faster (still hunt sometimes) even in similar contrast situation. Really though...

Fujifilm X-Pro1

The Fujifilm X-Pro1 ($1,199.95 body only) was the camera that launched the company's X series of interchangeable lens bodies. That makes it about two years old, which can be an eternity in the technology world.
Pros:
  • Great high ISO images
  • X-Trans image sensor
  • Hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder
  • Sharp rear display
  • Excellent control layout
  • Sturdy build
  • PC sync flash socket
  • Continued firmware update support
Cons:
  • A little slow to focus
  • Lacks built-in flash
  • Not a good choice for video
  • No mic input

I figured since I bought the camera through Vistek, I might as well post this review here. If you're planning on buying photo equipment, I do recommend Vistek. As for the camera... I've been using the X Pro-1 for a couple weeks with the 35 – it replaced a Nikon D80, many lenses and flashes, etc.

Everything old is new again

I got this camera with the 18-55 lens a week before leaving for a 3 week trip to Asia. Having used SLRs for 44 years and digital since 2000 this was a learning experience. My goals in getting this camera were to have something that was lighter than a DSLR, easy to use and more hands on like the...
Pros:
  • Good in Low Light
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Small / Compact
Cons:
  • Lag / Shutter Delay
  • Short Battery Life
