As the best holidays-for-grown-ups month dawns, which would be my ideal new serious camera to take on a trip (long airplane rides being the absolute best time to read and ingest those bulky-but-essential instruction manuals)?

The Fujifilm X-Pro1 digital interchangeable lens camera features a 16.3 megapixel Fuji X-Trans CMOS image sensor coupled to the latest Fujifilm processor, a superb dynamic range, excellent high ISO noise performance, professional quality controls and handling, extremely accurate autofocus,
Pros:
- What a camera
- Despite my whining above about the v1 firmware autofocus speed, the Fujifilm X-Pro1 has
Cons:
- The SD card slot adjacent to the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera is awkward to access because the slot door only opens 90 degrees
- We had to figure out a kind of two-finger grip on the sides of the SD card to help line it up for insertion, and a perfectly perpendicular push & release...

Fuji X-Pro1 Review
The X-Pro1 is half the price of a Canon 5D Mark III or Nikon D800 , so if you already have a 5D Mark II or D700 , you might want to step all the way up to the X-Pro1 for half the price of the 5D Mark III or D800, each of which are mostly the same as the older models, while there is nothing like the...

Fujifilm X-Pro1
"Stunning," "astounding" and "gorgeous" images are the Fujifilm X-Pro1's claim to fame in test after test. Even more than its retro rangefinder styling, its dazzling photos grab critics' attention. But it's flawed. Slow autofocus, disappointing video and some flimsy bits harm its rating in reviews.
Pros:
- Astounding image quality
- Retro rangefinder body and controls
- Compatible with high-grade lenses
Cons:
- Not the quickest to focus
- Subpar video
- Feels flimsy for the price

Fujifilm X-Pro1
? Shooting with the Fujifilm X-Pro1 is really a kick. It took me back to the days when all I had were prime lenses, and my senses were tuned to the world around me such that I could anticipate which lens I needed before the action happened, and swiftly reach into my bag for the right lens.
Pros:
- Quality build
- Unique hybrid optical viewfinder
- Excellent LCD
- Good controls
- Excellent image quality, Quality build, Unique hybrid optical viewfinder, Excellent LCD, even in sunlight, Good analog control dials for quick manual, auto, or semi-auto exposure, Digital controls are well-placed, Menu is...
Cons:
- Limited to prime lenses (for now)
- Loose aperture ring and EV dial
- Mediocre autofocus speeds
- Slow buffer clearing
- Tripod socket too close to battery compartment, Proprietary lens mount, Very limited selection of available lenses, Aperture rings and EV dial are a bit loose, OVF accuracy...

Pros:
- Looks like a Leica M3
- has good weight
- Fairly user friendly
Cons:
- Firmware difficult to install
- It has taken 2 months to get 3.20 to load
- Lens firmware will not load after 15 tries, so I can't use any of the Fuji X mount AF lenses
- I have tried every manual lens adaptor on the market and none will focus to infinity correctly.

Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera review
This brings me to my original question; is this camera for the beginner, the hobbyist that wants to get serious about photography or the professional? At R17,999.00 for the body alone, the Fujifilm X-Pro1 is priced out of reach of most amateur photographers, and indeed many hobbyists will baulk at...

Fuji's pro digital camera looks retro, but is far from it
It's been a long time since Fujifilm had anything to do with the professional or enthusiast-level digital camera market. The S5 Pro from 2006 was based on Nikon's semi-professional D200 DX-crop camera, but added Fuji's signature excellent colour performance, tweaking aspects of the camera to suit...
Pros:
- Excellent image quality
- Impressive design and build quality
- High quality lens line-up
Cons:
- Imperfect hybrid viewfinder setup
- Slow autofocus
- mediocre manual focus performance

Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Review
The X-Pro1 is Fujifilm's premium entry into the mirrorless camera segment, the announcement of which comes alongside the release of three fast aperture prime lenses. For a camera that costs Rs. 1,04,999, we'd have expected better focus performance (with respect to tracking and acquisition).
Pros:
- New sensor design delivers very sharp images even at base apertures
- True Rangefinder-like experience
- Good selection of prime lenses that take good advantage of the sensor
Cons:
- Relatively slow AF
- Changing from photo to video mode a little cumbersome
- Too expensive
- especially given the competition in the sub 50K range
