Fuji X-E1 Review

Those, who read our website on a frequent basis know that I ended up picking the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as my mirrorless camera of choice last year. Although I loved shooting with the Fuji X-Pro1, the two primary reasons why I decided to hold back, were its poor autofocus performance and lack of RAW...

The FujiFilm X-E1 is their newest X-mount ILC camera, featuring the same APS-C sized 16-Megapixel X-Trans CMOS image sensor that was initially released in their flagship X-Pro 1 camera. The X-E1 was not designed like most consumer digicams, but more like a true rangefinder camera.

Cons:
  • Shooting performance lacks a little when compared to the performance of the rest of the camera
  • No Auto or Scene shooting modes
  • No dedicated video recording button
  • Lofty Price Tag
  • Choppy video playback with low quality audio

Fujifilm X-E1

The X-E1 is one hell of a camera, leaving a few quirks aside. It is a mirrorless that can actually function as a substitute to the bulky DSLR for many users. If you're in the market for a DSLR, or want a camera system that will give you great images, then you might want to look at getting the X-E1.
Pros:
  • Compact body compared to a DSLR
  • Excellent image quality even at high ISO
  • Well-placed dials that make accessing settings really quick
Cons:
  • AF is a hit or miss at times
  • Lack of any sort of controls in video recording mode

There's a lot to be said for form as well as function and there's no question the Fujifilm X-series cameras elicit a certain response from those of us who enjoy both photography and well-built gadgets.

Great camera, especially for travelling

This camera is really good, amazing quality shots, and even at ISO3200 and above there is little noise. Photos have a special "something" to them. You should also look at the 35mm F1.4 Fulifilm lens, which is also great and worthwhile, and for a "fun" lens the Samyang/Rokinon/Bowen 8mm F2.8 fisheye...

Fujifilm X-E1

The Fujifilm X-E1 is a solid mirrorless camera with an innovative image sensor, but it doesn't quite have the chops to unseat the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as our Editors' Choice.
