Fujifilm X-E1 First Impressions Review
It feels redundant to re-introduce the Fujifilm X Series at this point. At Photokina 2010, Fuji debuted the X100 , a fixed-lens camera with a big sensor and a groundbreaking optical/electronic hybrid viewfinder.
Pros:
- Bright
- sharp OLED viewfinder
- Costs much less than X-Pro1
- Great retro design and feel
Cons:
- Focus still seems to be wonky

- Needs bigger handgrip for extensive use
- Mushy shutter button feel
- Mediocre autofocus and shot-to-shot speeds

We really like this camera - it looks great, it's intuitive to use and image quality is very good. The X-E1 is aimed at enthusiasts and professional photographers looking for an even more compact and lightweight alternative to the X-Pro 1.

For both the beginner or advanced photographer
I was looking for and found a small one-lens (zoom), high quality build, and excellent picture quality, camera that was both fully automatic and with which it was easy to gain full control over any one picture. The menus are easy to navigate.
Pros:
- Easy to use as auto or full control of picture
Cons:
- Right thumb has a small place of rest and can
- without practice

Lean but still mean
Fujifilm is currently the biggest champion of retro design in the camera space, and the newly announced Fujifilm X-E1 indicates there's no end in sight. In many ways, this new edition is just a smaller version of the so-called poor man's Leica, a.k.a X Pro-1 .

Fujifilm X-E1
The Fujifilm X-E1 is a compact system camera (CSC) unlike any of the competition out there - that's clear from taking just one glance at this well-oiled, retro-designed machine. But it's what's on the inside that's most exciting.
Pros:
- Image quality is excellent
- build quality is superb
- retro style works a treat
- high resolution electronic viewfinder
- 18-55mm lens has bright aperture range and is well built
Cons:
- Autofocus not as swift as competition
- close focus limitations
- exposure comp dial can be knocked easily
- 18-55mm lens positions rotational rings close together
- small LCD screen
- so-so battery life

Having provided a detailed 'First Look' at Fujifilm's X-E1 interchangeable-lens camera in September, rather than re-hash the information supplied there, we'll concentrate on aspects of the camera we were unable to assess in our initial overview: handling and performance.
