Fuji X-E1
Updated: Now with a page comparing the Fuji X-E1 with the Fuji X-Pro1.
Pros:
- Improved autofocus
- Retro design
- Lots of dials
- Fantastic EVF
Cons:
- Not a touchscreen
- Can't shoot raw in all situations
- Hidden video mode

There's a lot to be said for form as well as function and there's no question the Fujifilm X-series cameras elicit a certain response from those of us who enjoy both photography and well-built gadgets.
Pros:
- Unique camera design makes you want to take pictures
- Excellent JPEGs
- little need to shoot raw most of the time
- Reliable metering and AWB systems
- good color (with choice of 'film modes'
- Dials for exposure controls allow for easy check of settings by glancing at the top deck

Cons:
- Built-in level isn't always as accurate as we'd like
- Relatively slow AF makes photographing children more difficult
- Framerates in continuous shooting mode aren't completely consistent
- Camera disables RAW shooting without warning in some bracketing modes

Fuji X-E1
The Fuji X-E1 follows the X-Pro1 with the same 16 MP CMOS sensor that delivers class-leading image quality thanks to its unique X-Trans sensor which does not use an anti-alias filter. The X-E1 is an excellent successor to the X-Pro1.
Pros:
- Class-leading image quality
- Extremely low image noise up to ISO 6400
- Excellent sharpness
- Great color accuracy
- Above average metering system
- Good white-balance
- Superb EVF
- Plenty of direct controls
- Instant video response
- Excellent build quality
Cons:
- Very slow autofocus in low-light
- Sluggish autofocus in good light
- Slow shot-to-shot speed
- Not Exposure-Priority
- Fractional shutter-speeds get reset
- Only one Fn button
- No AE-L in MF mode
- Soft aperture detents

Pros:
- Smaller
- lighter and slightly cheaper version of flagship X-Pro1
- gorgeously retro styling
- some lovely DSLR-like effects and results achievable with the 18-55mm kit zoom provided
- good option for the semi pro photographer wanting a less intrusive backup to a DSLR
Cons:
- More plastic-y elements to certain aspects of the build this time around
- even though it commands a premium price tag
- plus auto focus could be quicker still
- particularly when adjusting framing during video recording

We really like this camera - it looks great, it's intuitive to use and image quality is very good. The X-E1 is aimed at enthusiasts and professional photographers looking for an even more compact and lightweight alternative to the X-Pro 1.

Fujifilm X-E1
The Fujifilm X-E1 ($1,399 list with 18-55mm lens) is the second interchangeable lens camera in Fuji's X series. It omits the hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder that is included with the top-end X-Pro1, and instead includes an extremely sharp OLED EVF.
Pros:
- Excellent high ISO images
- 4.6fps shooting
- Sharp kit lens
- OLED EVF
- Top-notch control layout
- Built-in flash.
Cons:
- Fixed rear LCD
- Noticeable shutter lag
- Video support is limited to 24p

Fujifilm X-E1 review
One thing that greatly appealed to us about early compact system cameras (CSCs), such as the Olympus Pen E-P1 from 2009, followed by the Pentax Q , and earlier this year the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and Olympus OM-D , was that they didn't obviously resemble digital cameras.
Pros:
- Retro styling
- Less daunting than the X-Pro1
- Lovely image results
Cons:
- A pricey step up
- Screen isn't angle adjustable
- AF could be quicker

For both the beginner or advanced photographer
I was looking for and found a small one-lens (zoom), high quality build, and excellent picture quality, camera that was both fully automatic and with which it was easy to gain full control over any one picture. The menus are easy to navigate.
Pros:
- Easy to use as auto or full control of picture
Cons:
- Right thumb has a small place of rest and can
- without practice
- inadvertently press a button
