Right before Christmas my wife started dropping hints about what she wanted. Aside from the usual requests this time she had a new one, and unusual for her. She asked what I thought of 'the Flip'. "The Flip?" I asked. "You know, the Flip HD camcorder," she replied.

The Flip MinoHD is a compact, cellphone-sized, digital video camera that is capable of capturing high definition video.  It focuses on simple operation and sharing options.  I've had one for a couple of weeks now and, generally speaking, am very impressed with its features, quality and operation.

Based on the highly popular and portable Mino pocket camcorder, Flip Video has upped the ante once more with the MinoHD.

There's much to like about the Flip Mino HD – the "point and shoot" concept for casual use is welcome – but I can't help but feel that the company rushed to High Definition too fast.

Pure Digital Technologies Inc. isn't the most well known of brands. Ask people what they make and most wouldn't know but show them a Flip Video camera and they're instantly interested. Its quite a nice lineup of products they've got with a very focused direction; simplicity in photography.

Now coming with a tripod means that you can use it for many more recording scenarios, including recording without the ‘shakes' and also recording yourself- if you are that way inclined of course.

The Flip Mino and MinoHD have been a success in the U.S. for some time now and Cisco have just launched these two models in New Zealand and Australia. I was sent one for this review just before launch and can confirm that it's a success amongst my friends - geeks and non-geeks.
