The Fighter Within Review

Aside from the very basics of punching and kicking, nothing in The works well, and very little works at all. It's gesture recognition is abysmal, its fighting is shallow, and it wastes too much time trying to clumsily tell a silly, unnecessary story.

Punching functions well

Painful menu navigation; Disjointed gameplay; Laughable story; Terrible AI

Fighter Within Review

Wonder if Kinect 2.0's new tech is sharp enough to register when you flip it the bird? You'll have ample room to figure that out with Fighter Within, a shallow fighter that's more infuriating than fun to play.

Visuals are slick

Insipid campaign; Lame characters; Near-broken controls; Puke-worthy plot

Fighter Within

We've heard so much about the significantly enhanced Kinect sensor with the Xbox One - what with its improved motion-sensing accuracy and higher-resolution camera - but you wouldn't know that anything had changed based on playing Fighter Within .

- Kinect often fails to recognize more complex maneuvers; - Cinematic-heavy matches are stilted; repetitive; and boring; - Terrible dialogue; story; and characters - everything; really; ?

Fighter Within Review – Xbox One

It didn't take long before the phrase "Kinect Required" became a death sentence for any new game that tried to implement the device on the Xbox 360; especially when it was the ONLY way to play the game.

Positives Amusing when it works two out of ten tries

Negatives At its core - the core being KINECT - the game simply doesn't work; Toss on a weak story, poor voice acting and awkward multiplayer

Fighter Within

Conceptually, the game is supposed to walk you through various fighting styles and copy the player's movements using the Kinect. In reality, it's anything but that. By the way, it's the spiritual successor to Ubisoft's poorly reviewed 'Fighters Uncaged,' an early attempt to showcase the original...

Fighter Within Review (Xbox One)

- Launch games are supposed to showcase new technology, not expose its shortcomings. By not recognizing its own motion controls, Fighter Within is gesture-based by definition alone.

Fighter Within Review: A flailed attempt

Fighter Within really showcases the larger problem with Kinect only games: they just don't work. Ryse: Son of Rome and Crimson Dragon have seemingly avoided this fate, while games like Just Dance and Dance Central are of course the exception to the rule.

Buggy, disappointing brawler will get your heart pumping.

Parents need to know that Fighter Within is a fighting game for the Xbox One that translates real-world movements into on-screen punches and kicks. Using the Kinect camera, players move their bodies, and those actions are reflected in their on-screen characters. It can be quite a workout.
