Far Cry Primal

Joining the other Far Cry titles but putting a prehistoric twist on it is Far Cry Primal a title available across Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Intended to be a spiritual predecessor to the games in the Far Cry franchise you'll step back in time to take on the role of a hunter in a large...

Takes the best elements of Far Cry and integrates them into a new environment; Tame animals to assist you explore the prehistoric world; Lead your village through upgrades and crafting

Lacks significant storyline making the whole experience feel short; Melee combat with other humans misses the mark

Reshaping history - Far Cry Primal review

Taking chances is something many on-going video game franchises are hesitant to do. But as the trend of annualized schedules and the rush to get the next product out heat up, it's important that developers alter the formula up a bit to keep the fans interested.

Side characters are enjoyable; Companion system is a nice addition; Environments are gorgeous; Well-crafted world

Hand-to-hand focused combat is tiring and repetitive; Takkar is the definition of a flat character

Far Cry Primal review

Far Cry Primal isn't perfect, but thankfully it's not boring either. The story could have been longer and more in depth and the basic concept of the game hasn't changed a lot since 4. Essentially, it's the same old Far Cry formula but adapted to a Stone Age surrounding. But while that may not seem very exciting, there are enough changes that you'll get plenty of entertainment from it. Taming and hunting beasts is great fun and ordering them to kill enemy soliders never gets old. The reliance on prehistoric weapons proves that guns and gaming don't have to go together the end result is well worth leaving the modern day world behind for. Just don't expect to want to stay for ever.

Being the Beast Master; Improved combat; Stone Age setting;

Missions are often too easy; Supporting characters too shallow; Gameplay too similar to 4;

Far Cry Primal Review – Barebacking a Sabre-Toothed Tiger is as Magical as it Sounds

Far Cry Primal is everything you'd expect a Far Cry game to be without a lot of the things you've always known to be part of a Far Cry game. No guns, no vehicles, no explosions. Despite the omission of these and the implementation of clubs, bee bombs, Sabretooth Tiger sic' ems and more this is 100%...

Highly immersive; Stunning graphics and lighting; Strong character performances; Prehistoric weaponry is a blast; Breathes new life into the series

Thin and predictable plot; Forced subtitles can pull you out of the experience; A ton of repetitive missions

Welcome to 10.000 BCE. This is a harsh land, filled with creatures and people that can kill you in an instant. Many lead a nomadic existence, following food and avoiding the colder climes. But you have a home, a people, however others are trying to kill you, to eat, enslave or sacrifice the Wenja.

Beautiful graphics | Amazing attention to detail

Poor story | Boss battles | Urki

Far Cry Primal Review – Basic Instinct (PS4)

I've always wondered what humans did before video games. I've tried to ask my parents but I tend to get bored after a few words and stop listening. I don't think I'd ever make it in a primal, survival based scenario. I'm far too used to the luxuries of modern life.

Attention to detail creates a living prehistoric setting; Soundscape and global lighting are enthralling; Riding a saber tooth tiger into a camp of cannibals wielding a flaming spear; Urki

Authenticity to primitive culture disconnects player from characters; Lack of meaningful backstory or motivation throughout; Underneath all that cave paint; there's a ton of repeated quests; Ull and Batari are not Vaas or Pagan Min levels of memorable

I do honestly really love this game but most people have said what needs to be said about what is good (It looks great, it sounds great, it plays great etc.) I'll just add the problems I had with it. The first and most obvious is the story which is just really short and boring.

PS4 Review - 'Far Cry Primal'

It's refreshing when a franchise tries to change up its formula. Far Cry isn't exactly the most prolific franchise on the market, but 2014's Far Cry 4 was starting to feel too familiar.

There are countless amazing open world moments to be had in Far Cry Primal. One of my most memorable moments was riding a bear and taking out a mammoth. But the game is greatly hindered in two key areas. First its story is nothing short of terrible.

Far Cry Primal review – prehistoric gameplay

The prehistoric setting adds little to the Far Cry formula, while taking away several key features – even if the overall experience is still enjoyable.

Most of the animal taming elements are good fun and the primitive weapons are more satisfying to use than you might think; Large open world with plenty to see and do

Very basic storyline, with no interesting characters – including the dull villains; Uninspired mission design, repetitive formula, and too few truly exotic animals
