Paleolithic Europe is about to E-X-P-L-O-D-E. Does this this primordial reskinning of Far Cry 4 make us want to take up the cause of Cro-Magnon man? An odd realization occurred to me about two hours into playing Far Cry: Primal: I was having the damnedest time telling my play experience apart from...

Far Cry Primal review

Chris heads back to the dawn of mankind, and attempts to end us before we began.

The world is beautiful and lush with wonderful lighting and sound; Controlling animals is a welcome addition to the Far Cry formula, and the fictional prehistoric language not only immersive but completely convincing

Tedious questing and crafting; Rehashed game play, and mediocre story; Too little game stretched over too much game time; It is hurt by its omissions and even some of its additions

A joy to play.

Far Cry Primal is completely different from the past two, or even three games, taking the series back to the stoneage, when man wasn't top of the food chain. It's a nice break from the series and getting used to no guns takes a bit of adjustment.

Awesome game

Completely different from all of the other games we've played, which makes it stand out from the rest. Awesome game.

Far Cry Primal review – prehistoric gameplay

The prehistoric setting adds little to the Far Cry formula, while taking away several key features – even if the overall experience is still enjoyable.

Most of the animal taming elements are good fun and the primitive weapons are more satisfying to use than you might think; Large open world with plenty to see and do

Very basic storyline, with no interesting characters – including the dull villains; Uninspired mission design, repetitive formula, and too few truly exotic animals

But something about the utilitarian nature of Far Cry Primal clicked with me, beyond my own magpie-esque affinity for picking up every scrap of flint and animal fat dotting the landscape.

Far Cry Primal Review

It was an unfamiliar scent, making him easy to track. I had come across many wolves in Oros, but none like this. He was striped, white, brown, and black, with a scar on his eye. I had managed to separate him from the rest of the pack to a small opening in the forest lit by moonlight.

Lack of guns and vehicles allows for more dynamic gameplay; Great Beast hunts are tense; stressful; awesome; Lush; evocative visuals; You can ride a bear

One button; too many functions; Abundance of things that can kill you can detract from quieter moments; Tags

Far Cry Primal

Primal takes the great structure of the Far Cry series, but little of its character. No clear goal and a limited arsenal end up making this feel a little prehistoric itself.

The Far Cry template is always good for mindless fun; Oros is a beautiful; and surprisingly changeable; land; Training animals is a great sidequest/mechanic

Lacks a clear focus; making the whole affair aimless; Prehistoric inventory is brave; but limited; Reduces its weirdest ideas to distractions

Far Cry Primal review

Picture a moment in space and time. It can be anywhere and anywhen. It could be aeons ago, long before the first upwardly mobile fish ever unlocked the ability to walk on land, or it could be a few centuries into the future, during the 31st term of President Trump Al Saud.
