Far Cry New Dawn Review – Rising Like The Sun

It's been seventeen years since the Collapse. The land of Hope County, desolated by nuclear warfare, has been reclaimed by nature and the remnants of humanity. As Captain of Security (or ‘Cap', as you will be known by henceforth) you are part of a team requisitioned by Carmina Rye of Prosperity, a...

Far Cry 5 ended with quite a bang. During a bloody war with the deranged religious cult, Eden's Gate, we thought that the issues plaguing Hope County were just domestic. The cult proclaimed doomsday was coming, but attention was given to local disputes and taking out the cult's generals that were...

Surprisingly deep and wonderful narrative; Great characters with distinct personalities and intentions; The aesthetic is realised amazingly; Expeditions are really cool to take part in; Some of the weapons are extremely creative; It's just a solid fun time; Building a settlement and getting more...

Microtransactions have an influence on the resources; Lives a bit too much in Far Cry 5's shadow; Gameplay can get a little boring if you already played the previous game a lot

Far Cry New Dawn review

Almost 20 years have passed since the events at the end of Far Cry 5 saw Hope County – SUPER MASSIVE BIG SPOILER THAT HAS BEEN SPOKEN ABOUT AD NAUSEUM IN THE BUILD-UP TO THIS GAME'S LAUNCH, BUT STILL – reduced to a smouldering heap after a nuclear bomb signalled the end of the world.

Far Cry: New Dawn Review – Welcome To The Apocalypse

The obvious first thought I had when I heard about Far Cry: New Dawn was that it's another DLC for Far Cry 5 . ...

Beautiful world to explore; The Father is back; Expeditions

Does feel similar to Far Cry 5 at times

Far Cry New Dawn Review: A Vibrant Wasteland

Far Cry: New Dawn takes players back to Hope County 17 years after the fact to face twin foes, with new weapons and lots of fan service.

Bright; vibrant post-apocalyptic setting; Compelling villains; Fun; over-the-top gameplay; Light RPG elements add new dimension to game

Spotty object interaction; Floaty vehicle controls

Far Cry New Dawn Review

Another in a long line of strange Far Cry spin-offs , New Dawn actually takes place after Far Cry 5. About 26 years after, to be precise, which takes the open-ended people-shooter into the post-apocalypse.

Stunningly pretty; Joseph continues to be captivating; New abilities are fun; Combat is still great; Stunningly pretty; Joseph continues to be captivating; New abilities are fun; Combat is still great

Many changes feel superfluous; Missing features from FC5; Truly superfluous microtransactions; A handful of bugs

Far Cry New Dawn

The familiar brown, blighted wastelands of the apocalypse have graced far too many video games over the years – and it looks as though someone at Ubisoft said "enough".

Far Cry New Dawn Review – Sins of The Father (PS4)

If Square Enix had made Far Cry New Dawn , it would be called Far Cry V-2 , or maybe Far Cry 5: Hope County Returns . In an unusual twist. Ubisoft made a Far Cry game that was a direct sequel to the last one.

Light RPG mechanics increase challenge and replayability; People; events; and places from Far Cry 5; now with an apocalypse; Intriguing story for returning players; Great pacing between story and side activities

Still the same Far Cry at its core; First-person driving is terrible; "Non-action" moments lack interesting outcomes

Far Cry New Dawn Review

And that's the thing about Far Cry New Dawn. I've peppered it throughout here, but the game is just too much fun. It's hard to give it any other reason to play it. There's a loot loop that is pavlovian as fuck, and that's kind of almost a system metaphor for the whole game.

Gear up to become a problem solver - Far Cry New Dawn review

Far Cry New Dawn is an awesome addition to the series, especially since it's the first sequel for another game. The combat makes you feel like a badass, but that doesn't mean you can go in without gearing up.

Awesome and fast-paced gunplay; Cast of characters are endearing and unique; Plethora of side activities; Co-op works like a dream

Main story missions won't take long to finish; Proximity limits to partner in co-op
