FIFA 20 Review – A Well-Worn Institution

It's hard to know what FIFA is anymore. Like EA Sports' Madden or 2K's NBA 2K, FIFA has been absorbed into the larger sports culture. It's been adopted by the athletes themselves, and is a symbol for video games in general. FIFA may be everywhere, but where does that leave FIFA 20

FIFA 20 Review

There have been a lot of changes to FIFA in recent years... at least that's what EA's been telling us on the yearly. No, there really have been some

FIFA 20 Review – Stylish and Fresh, Yet Oh So Familiar

EA has been putting out an annual release of FIFA for 26 consecutive years. While a lot has changed in that time, a lot about the game remains constant year over year. There are a ton of graphical improvements, and a bunch of new and improved game modes that just didn't exist back then, yet it's...

Volta injects an all-new feel to FIFA; Absolutely gorgeous; Lots of game to play

Dribbling is less controlled; Story in Volta is lackluster; Small glitches and oversights

FIFA 20 Review – A Little Bit Pitchy (PS4)

If you're a returning player from last season, you'll likely recall that the gameplay enhancements mainly revolved around providing better control and finesse on the offensive side of the ball.

Volta is a fresh new canvas to experience the sport; Defensive enhancements force players out of their comfort zone; Career mode gets a welcome new coat of paint

You can no longer play lazy defense; Volta feels too claustrophobic on 3v3 courts; Why do the textures look so fuzzy

FIFA 20 game review – defending is back and so is the fun

The new

Defending is hard; Volta is fun; the gameplay is much more balanced; and pace matters again

Ultimate Team is still too pay-to-win; goalkeeping and player switching needs work; and career mode has been neglected again

FIFA 20 review

By listening to player feedback and implementing some inspired changes, EA has made FIFA 20 feel like a worthwhile content package for patch note-scouring series veterans and an enticing entry point for first-timers and rule breakers who like a little fun to go with their soccer.

Volta soccer is a neon revelation; Admirable pace; Defending tweaks; Zany modifiers; Electric soundtrack

Career Mode still needs a revamp; Visual upgrades are negligible

Disappointed

Had it for 24 hours, no improvement - as bad as fifa 18 & 19. Didn't think that was possible. I will persevere, but don't hold out much hope. It's about time EA Sports bought out a fifa game that is worthy of the price.

Street football gives FIFA nostalgia hit in otherwise static release

With the online Ultimate Team mode continuing to be a major draw for players and an incredible money-maker for publisher EA, annual FIFA releases these days can feel like a few new side-dishes and tweaked seasoning around the familiar meal of loot-boxes and fantasy football.

Games Broken

Every year I ask myself why I continue to purchase the Fifa games. This year has somehow managed to be as bad as fifa 19. If you want to play Career Mode you're out of luck as that's completely broken, EA only seem to care that they continue to shift their expensive ultimate team points than...

Fifa 20

FIFA is back for another year with all the bells and whistles you'd come to expect from an EA Sports release. Over the last couple of years FIFA seems to have fallen back into familiar patterns.
