Great Low Cost Photo Scanner
I haven't had this scanner long but I have scanned over 500 photos since I received it. The automatic picture detection is hit or miss and sometimes detects multiple photos correctly and other times it needs to be done manually, but is easy to do in the scanning software.
Pros:
- Fast start up and scanning
- Works well with slides, negatives and film
- Allows scanning of multiple photos at one time creating a separate file for each
- Optical resolution up to 6400 dpi
- Automatic color restoration and dust elimination work OK for most scans.
Cons:
- Took 6 days for my 3 day shipping
- I don't think it was actually in stock yet
- Price dropped after I purchased it
- Front panel buttons don't work but that is probably because I installed just the basic scanning software and drivers from the Epson website and didn't load all the other software that...

Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner Review
The Epson Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner makes high-quality scans from both photos and film, and can scan directly to Facebook and cloud-based sites. Epson has a knack for making good photo and film scanners that don't break the bank, and the Epson Perfection V550 Photo Scanner($700.00 at Amazon) is no exception. It is very similar to the Editors' Choice Epson Perfection V500 , which it's replacing, but with two notable differences. It adds a utility that easily uploads scans to email, Facebook, and several cloud-based services. Gone, however, is Photoshop Elements, leaving the V550 without a bundled photo-editing program. Still, it brings to the table impressive scan quality, the ability to scan multiple 35mm slides or film negatives, and the Digital Ice hardware-based solution for film scanning. All this earns it the Editors' Choice for photocentric flatbed scanners. The V550 measures 4.6 by 11.2 by 19.1 inches and weighs 9.6 pounds. It has a maximum scan area of 8.5 by 11.7 inches, and a maximum optical resolution of 6,400 dpi. It can scan up to four 35mm slides, two rows of six negatives each, or medium-format film, with ...
Pros:
- High-quality scans for a flatbed scanner at its price
- Can scan slides, negatives, and medium-format film as well as prints
- Digital ICE hardware-based dust removal for film
- Can upload scans directly to Facebook and cloud-based services
Cons:
- Lacks photo-editing program
- Not ideal for document scanning

Works well
Quick to start and provides good quality scans. Turns itself off after a while of non-use which is good. However the on switch is hidden on the side towards the back which is fiddly to find if you have the scanner next to other things. A switch on the front would have been better.
Pros:
- Great Picture Quality
- Simple Controls
Cons:
- Bulky

GREAT FOR MEMORIES
I am 60 year old. I use it for the scanning of old negatives and old photos. It feels great that negatives and photos can be digitized for my family and future generations to enjoy.

"Epson V550 Photo Scanner"
I have to admit, this product is awesome. Wow! My parents bought us one of this last year so we can scan our old photos and keep them in high definition. I was suprised on how our old photos turned out to look after we scaned them using Espon Perfection V550 Photo.
Pros:
- Restores old photos with Digital ICE Technology
Cons:
- Quiet Expensive

Then, too, there are several midrange photo scanners in between, including the topic of this review, Epson's $199.99-list Perfection V550 Photo Color Scanner-which, as you'll see as you read on, is a fine little scanner in its own right, even if Epson neglected to include image-editing software… A...

Student/Business
It is a great addition to my office machines. I have not used it for pictures. But i got it with that in mind as i have 100 year old family photos. I am a student and it is seriously helping me with that. Because i needed a commercial printer for grad school i got one without scan capability.

Ideal for making digital copies of 120 negatives
So far the scans made from 50+ year old 120 format negatives have exceeded expestations. Having read about this scanner I was disapointed that I was unable to examine/purchase one locally in W.A.
