I've used this on Kodi and Raspbian (Jesse) and it has worked without having to download or install anything. The included mini-cd is for installing on a computer. I have used this on a windows 10 desktop and it works well, picking up wifi on the other side of the house through a couple walls.
I like the product, as the speeds I get is similar to mobile. Local Data transfer rate over wi-fi is over 20MBPS. I use this device across 3 rooms, 40feet from router.
Nice design and very unobtrusive. I use it to back up my built-in WiFi adaptor, which is unreliable and drops out. (Its not my service since all other devices work fine). I find it does not seem to give as fast a service as my built in adaptor when that is working.
Product as described and works well in general. However, I could not smoothly stream mjpeg video from my raspberry pi 2 with this. Ended up buying a different dongle for that. But aside from streaming and other high bandwidth tasks, this dongle works out of the box and works well.
It used to work fine but after a while the black plastic broke off for no obvious reason leaving the internals exposed and eventually rendering the device useless. You can probably find a better built adapter.
Found these work great for HTPC's using Linux-based Openelec or Libreelec operating systems with Kodi. Hard to find a wireless solution that works with Linux but these are plug in and go with no driver installation.
Keeps dropping connection on University Network on mid 2009 MacBook Pro running latest High Sierra Beta. Useless.
