Dragon Quest Builders 2 Review | Building on a firm foundation

I've never been able to get into Minecraft . Maybe I lack the imagination, but I need some sort of motivation behind smashing thousands of squares. I found that in Dragon Quest Builders 2 .

Progress carries over between islands now; NPCs can do something besides kind of fight sometimes; Plot is a good mixture of lighthearted comedy and more poignant scenes dealing with friendship; Multiplayer is a welcome addition to the series

The Dragon Quest series has been a mainstay on Nintendo consoles for decades now, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception. Dragon Quest XI , which originally released last year for PlayStation 4, is set to receive an enhanced edition later this year on Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 (Nintendo Switch) Review

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is simply everything that its predecessor was and then some, with some improved mechanics, more block types to choose from and a new and more interesting story.

Solid and definitely has an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 Review

At first glance, you'd be forgiven if you labelled Dragon Quest Builders 2 as a rather shameless Minecraft clone. Its world consists of endless cubes making up sprawling deserts and dense forests, filled with iconic monsters from decades past that the series has come to call its own.

A huge; expansive world to explore filled with surprises; Building mechanics are both easy to learn and fun to experiment with; Many of the characters you meet are wonderfully written; Plenty of nods to the series' history makes this great for fans

Tutorials can often feel overlong and intrusive; Camera options are limited and oftentimes frustrating

Though the Minecraft formula has been iterated on to hell and back, Square Enix managed to offer up an interesting take on the sandbox classic with Dragon Quest Builders . All the blocky aesthetics and open-ended crafting were present and accounted for, but these things were all couched within a...

Dragon Quest Builders 2 review - "An inventive and engrossing sequel"

Released in Japan late last year, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to Square Enix's beloved sandbox building game, Dragon Quest Builders. That original entry seemed to come out of nowhere, surprising everyone with its smart play on then-popular crafting and survival mechanics...
