Dell UltraSharp U3011 review: Dell UltraSharp U3011

The Dell UltraSharp U3011 is an impressive monitor and the most feature-rich 30-incher out there. Simply put, the Dell UltraSharp U3011 is the best 30-inch monitor we've yet seen. Not only does it deliver great performance--which is expected from most devices running at a 2,560x1,600 resolution--but it also has tons of connection options and an OSD with a surprisingly high number of calibration features. The only problem is the price. At $1,349, it's about $400 more expensive than the 27-inch Dell UltraSharp U2711, which includes mostly the same features, with less real estate. The U2711 is still the best overall large-screen monitor, but if 27 inches just isn't enough, the U3011 is a fully capable alternative.
Pros:
  • The Dell UltraSharp U3011 has incredible performance
  • tons of connection options
  • and enough OSD features to satisfy most professional artists.
Cons:
  • The Dell UltraSharp U3011 has a higher price than other 30-inchers.

Dell U3011 Review: Dell's New 30-inch Flagship

There's something special about 30" displays. They're the biggest, the baddest, and the spiritual flagship for each respective display maker. It's where manufacturers pull out all the stops on visual quality, inputs, build quality and features.

Dell U3011

The out-of-box picture is fair but not fantastic. Color deviations are too visible and gamma is not stable rising from 1.75 in the bright colors to 2.1 in the darker shades. This means that the bright colors are too bright and the dark colors are also slightly too bright.
Pros:
  • Color reproduction
  • Response time
  • sRGB and AdobeRGB presets
  • High resolution
  • Height
  • tilt
  • swivel adjustment stand
Cons:
  • Black depth
  • Dirty screen look
  • Price

Dell U3011

A full review of the new 30" screen from Dell. An upgraded model with some of the new features of the 2010 range including factory calibration and an IPS panel. We will also directly compare the screen with the old 3008WFP model.
Pros:
  • Great colour accuracy and gamma set up at factory defaults
  • Including factory calibrated Adobe RGB and sRGB modes, Improvements made over the 3008WFP are significant, Great range of ergonomic and interface options
Cons:
  • Dynamic contrast ratio disfunctional and exagerated
  • Some moderate uniformity issues in our sample (may vary
  • Limited luminance control at the lower end
