Dell Latitude 5490 (i5-8350U, FHD) Laptop Review

The Dell Latitude 5490 has a lot of plus points, especially for companies and their employees: During office usage, it is very efficient and, thanks to the mostly fanless operation, very quiet.

stable chassis; rubber around display against dirt; 180° hinge; SIM slot; fast SD card reader; great input devices; quiet during Idle; efficient Idle; great battery life during light tasks

rather heavy; no standard Thunderbolt 3; security features almost entirely optional; no keyboard backlighting (optional; dark display; high latency due to driver issues; often not faster than predecessor; SSD average; energy consumption and noise under load

Dell Latitude 5490 review: All business, all the time

There's something about a good business laptop that you can recognize right away. Maybe it's that matte black plastic, or the fact that it's got that little extra bit of thickness that seems to telegraph to an IT department, "It's OK, I won't cost as much as you think.

Big; but not too big; Good key travel; Old-school "pointing" stick eraser nub mouse in keyboard; Powerful; with options out the wazoo

It's not the sexiest design; Fingerprint reader isn't fast; Resolution tops out at 1080p

Dell Latitude 5490 review

The Dell Latitude series has always been popular with business buyers. As they deliver precisely the feature sets that corporate IT wants at a price the finance department can stomach.

Competitively priced; Punchy processor; Excellent feature set

128GB SATA SSD; Proprietary charger; Mostly plastic

Dell Latitude 5490

While the configuration we tested is pricey, the Dell Latitude 5490 is a good value for those looking for an efficient, productive business laptop with lots of ports and power. It allows you multiple ways of navigating, via the touch screen, touchpad, or even the rubber pointer stick, and connecting...

Powerful performance; Great selection of ports, including VGA and Ethernet

Dull design; A tad heavy; Lackluster audio; Screen could be brighter
