Affordable and useful but painfully loud

The price point is right on; however, don't rely on this unit for much more than media streaming and occasional remote access.
Pros:
  • Easy on the wallet
  • easy to set up and comes with simple and useful utilities
Cons:
  • Slow- slow to come out of sleep mode, slow to transfer files
  • Loud- the fan in this thing hums way louder than my desktop PC

DNS-320L

I bought this device to plug into my network, to be accessed by my two Apple Macs, as well as access at work and abroad. From opening the box and plugging the unit in as per instructions I found it is not easy to setup.

D-Link ShareCenter DNS-320L NAS review

Servicing the lower-budget basic end of the NAS spectrum D-Link's ShareCenter does without many of the bells and whistles of its more expensive brethren. It's a two-bay NAS but the drives need a handle screwed on before they're slotted into the unit and it only supports 3.5-inch drives.

Fast and so far reliable

Have had this hooked up to two PCs and is accessible from all my iDevices throughout the home, and so far works great. Did have some issues with Windows at first but, with some trickery through "symbolic links" was able to fool both Windows 7 and Windows 8 that "My Documents", "My Pictures", etc...

D-Link DNS-320L review

NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices can sometimes seem to the uninitiated as a bit of a dark art. The idea is pretty simple - instead of having a hard drive inside your PC, or an external hard drive connected via USB, a NAS drive is plugged directly into your home network, through the router,...

Great Little Unit for the price

As everyone stated use the web-interface once you have Identified the unit. Takes very little time if you are experienced. Got a couple of 1TB drives running in Raid works just fine as a back-up to a buisness server.

Easy setup, lots of features

It was very easy to hookup to my home network and it took only minutes to setup a schedule for an incremental backup of all my files.

Generally OK.

Like several other types of home clouds, the system falls down on backing up lots of small files, eg an .epub library. Having said that, it's easy to use, and definitely better than the WD Cloud which I bought previously, and which was useless.
