I have had a canon DSLR for quite a few years now and my main usage was to take photographs of birds. I have been disappointed with the zoom lenses as a decent one can cost thousands so, on the lookout for a zoom lens with decent magnification, I came across a birding site that recommended this...

Nice, easy to hold, lightweight camera

Happy with my purchase, just need some practice now! Was surprised there was no case included In the package though & not sure if I'm keen on the way instructions recommend attaching lense cover to side of camera. It almost gets in the way while using the camera.

Some great updates!

I upgraded from the SX50, but have used the SX60, so was excited to purchase the SX70. The zoom is great and quiet and quiet while videoing. Was sad to see no hot shoe and that the ISO was now embedded and harder to quickly change. Have not set up the Wifi yet.

Great camera

I brought this for myself as an upgrade, I was surprised at the picture quality first then the array of effects and settings. The in house editing is a great feature. Plus can send photos straight to my mobile, fantastic camera for the money

Canon Powershot SX70HS Camera SX70HS review

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is a bridge camera. That means it combines some of the features of an interchangeable lens camera with those of a compact camera. So while it is fairly compact and has a fixed zoom lens, it looks like a small SLR.

DSLR-inspired looks and performance; Vlog-friendly 4K video; 65x zoom lens is the main attraction

Some bridge cameras offer greater zooms; No touch screen; Image quality is mediocre

Canon PowerShot SX70 HS

If you're looking for the convenience of a DSLR without the bulk or expense of multiple lenses, then a bridge camera could be for you – and the PowerShot SX70 HS is Canon's latest example.

Easy and fast to use; Great handling; Decent autofocus performance; Effective image stabilisation; Pleasing 4K footage

Poor wide-angle performance; Build quality could be better; No touchscreen; Noisy images past lowest ISO settings; Auto white balance a little hit and miss

Canon PowerShot SX70 HS Review

A competent travel and holiday camera with lots to recommend it, the PowerShot SX70 HS is a fine option for holidays in sunnier climes. If you need something that will deliver across a broader range of indoor and outdoor situations, though, it may be best to look towards a camera with a more modest zoom range and a larger sensor.

Canon Powershot SX70HS Camera SX70HS review

A well-featured and solid bridge camera that makes sense as a travel camera – just don’t rely on it for low light

65x zoom lens; Manual control; Raw format shooting; Good viewfinder

Screen not touch-sensitive; low light shooting poor; Detail not great at wide-angle
