In terms of street price, there's a wafer thin mint between the Canon SX260 HS and the Panasonic TZ30 (the Canon is currently a little cheaper). But the longer zoom range, versatile exposure modes, ease of use and picture quality make the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS a slightly more well-rounded and...

Outstanding in all ways

Other than the slippery-body - I LOVE this camera !! It does everything well - and I'm very happy with it !! I'm planning to take it to "Rocky Mountain National Park" next week (instead of my Canon 35mm digital) - and put it through its paces. I'm sure that it will pass with flying-colors.
Pros:
  • picture quality is superb - size is NICE - and the zoom on it
  • is to die for (20X) !
Cons:
  • the body of the camera is slippery - and consequently
  • I've dropped it twice already.

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS

The SX260 HS is small, well designed and, for point and shoot snappers, performs a treat too. But in such a hotly contested market place it could do with that little bit more oomph to really take it to the next level: we'd like to see a touchscreen with edge-to-edge focus control in the future.
Pros:
  • Among the best/most detailed shots in its class
  • big zoom in a small body
  • well priced for a Canon (often holds a price premium)
  • ease of use
Cons:
  • Limited AF selection in manual modes
  • no touchscreen
  • chromatic aberrations visible (colour fringing)
  • 500mm max aperture is f/6.8
  • no raw files

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS review

It's been five years since Canon launched its PowerShot SX series of family superzooms. SX cameras were designed to offer big lens performance at a more affordable price than traditional high-end superzooms, without skimping on features and functions.

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS review

The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS was our favourite pocket ultra-zoom camera of 2011. Rival cameras offered bigger zooms, faster performance, fancier shooting modes and sharper screens, but the SX230 HS's image quality was head-and-shoulders above the competition, especially in low light.
