Canon PowerShot S100
Stunning image quality for a conventional compact camera, but shot-to-shot performance and battery life just keep it from top marks

Canon PowerShot S100
Canon has taken one of its most successful digicams, the PowerShot S95, and upgraded it with a new sensor and image processor, longer zoom lens and better ergonomics to produce the PowerShot S100.

Helping keep images free of blur is Canon's Intelligent IS (Image Stabilization). The camera automatically chooses between six different modes (Normal, Macros, Panning, Dynamic, Powered, and Tripod). The S100 also has the ability to shoot in either JPEG and/or RAW file formats.
Pros:
- Solid metal Build
- Awesome f/2.0 - f/5.9
- 5x zoom lens
- New 12-Megapixel sensor creates larger and still very impressive images
- A slew of easy-to-use custom shooting settings
- Full manual control with Neutral Density filter for unmatched control from a compact camera
- Capable Smart Auto mode,...
Cons:
- Noticeable aberrations in some sample images
- Weaker flash (falls off very fast when using the zoom
- New features consume a lot of power and can be tough on the camera's battery
- $430 price tag is not for everyone

Canon PowerShot S100 review
There are now two cameras at the top of the point-and-shoot market, and Canon makes both of them. The S95 gets a slight edge in terms of image quality, but the S100's wider lens, faster performance, and video recording are all solid tweaks on top of the S95.
Pros:
- Fantastic image quality
- Fast performance
- Tons of manual controls
- Upgraded internals from the S95
Cons:
- Expensive
- Images are slightly inferior to the S95
- Relatively short battery life
