We make no bones about it. The Canon S100 is a superb camera let down slightly by its battery life that although short, will still get you through the day. Besides the minor stamina problem the Canon S100 excels in both photo and video, and is definitely worth a punt.
Pros:
  • For a camera so small, the Powershot S100 takes some cracking photos
  • Considering you can fit the thing in the smallest of pockets it isn't half decent
  • Images are bright, vivid, full of colour and noise-free
  • Great ISO control lets you snap some terrific photos in most lighting conditions.
Cons:
  • The price for a dainty camera capable of taking superb photos and recording high quality video comes at a cost to battery life
  • The Canon Powershot S100's battery life will wane after just a full days shooting.

Take into account the superb handling, impressive image quality – particularly at high ISOs – slick, detailed Full HD video, plus a responsive, accurate GPS system, and you have the recipe for a pretty remarkable camera that you can take anywhere.

Canon PowerShot S100 review

Updating the S95 , the S100 is described by Canon as a "serious compact" and comes in regulation black to prove it. Flat-fronted and pocket sized, with an unobtrusive pop-up flash, it boasts a roughened coating that recalls a DSLR and aids grip in lieu of a proper handgrip.
Pros:
  • Full range of manual controls
  • SLR-feel construction yet pocket sized proportions
Cons:
  • The most expensive compact on test
  • unimpressive battery life

Canon PowerShot S100 GPS compact camera

The PowerShot S100 is an excellent camera delivering image quality which exceeded my expectations. This, combined with superb handing, control and features justifies the S100 as a serious shooter, despite its size. It's certainly expensive, but in the right hands it's money well spent. ?

Canon PowerShot S100 review

The compact camera market has never been so vibrant, with compact system cameras (CSCs) from all the big manufacturers battling it out for pole position. All, that is, except Canon.

Canon PowerShot S100

This little black offering fits into the smallest pocket but can take HD video as well as rather nice still images. Even if you have a larger and more powerful unit, this can be ready even before that comes from the bag.

Very compact versatile camera

Excellent camera and small enough to always have on me. However because it is so small it is sometimes awkward to hold and I find myself putting my finger on the flash when it pops up. Sharp, fast lens. Keep a spare battery, it does drain quickly.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast/accurate auto-focus
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • Good in Low Light
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Short Lag Time
  • Small / Compact
Cons:
  • Short Battery Life
