This camera seems to be a combination of a Digital SLR and point and shoot all in one. It is compact enough to carry easily yet has many SLR functions. The moveable screen is a real plus. Took it on vacation and it yielded great pictures.

SLR alternative!
I have rarely picked up my Canon 5D MkII since buying my G12. The most notable feature is the excellent outdoor flash fill, even with just the on-board flash. I also bought a Canon 270EX external flash, which greatly extends the flash range.
Pros:
- good battery life
- excellent image quality
- Lightweight/Portable
- flash fill excellent
- external flash possible
Cons:
- amateur features could be deleted

great carry-everywhere camera
This is a first camera for my wife and a " carry-everywhere camera for me. There are times when I don't want to carry my D5100 w/18-200mm lens, but I almost always want to have a camera with me.

Canon G12 review
Since its maker doesn't yet offer an interchangeable lens compact system camera to rival the Olympus Pen E-PL1 , Sony NEX-5 or Panasonic Lumix GF2, Canon's range-topping 10 megapixel PowerShot G12 is being pitched as a more portable back up for a Canon EOS digital SLR.

Love the camera, fantastic video capabilities
I bought this camera so that I didn't have to carry my larger Nikon D90 when skiing, traveling, etc. I wanted a smallish camera that took exceptional photos. I got that and more. I have 2 children that play hockey and have been just carrying this camera to the games.

great compact
now superceded by later models this is an excellent all rounder, easy to use - especially the video, producing remarkably good pictures for its size. would recommend this series. watch out for the pivoting screen if you need one - not on all models, and not on this one.

Addition: I will continue cutting the score to a second The reason is that I was disappointed with the picture quality. I thought at first that it was me who did not take pictures correctly but is now starting to realize that the camera is indeed so.

Canon PowerShot G12 camera review
If you're looking for a high performance camera with great image quality, you should get a digital SLR, right? Well yes, DSLRs are top-drawer picture-takers. But they're bulky and they weigh a ton.
Pros:
- Tank-like build feels like it can take a pounding
- Tons of external controls on the camera body will bring out the pro in you
- Locking down the resolution at 10 MP means it's a better performer in low light
- Very good 720p HD capture with stereo sound.
Cons:
- Even lower-priced competing models offer higher-resolution 1080p HD video capture
- Only digital zooming during video capture degrades quality
- Imaging sensor is still tiny, though other advanced compacts have gone big.

Canon G12 Review
Everyone who owns a G-series Canon loves it. If I was G shooter, I'd have a G12 on order right now because the new little front dial is a very big deal. I prefer the Canon S95 , which I already bought and own and does the same thing, or better, for half the size and weight, and a lower price, but...
Pros:
- Landscape
- nature and travel photos
