Canon G12 scratches its own lens
I like it for so many reasons. But if Canon won't fix this, it's not worth owning.
Pros:
- I love this camera
- Lots of pro-level control, small enough to carry with me always
- I agree with the many people who rank this one highly
- That's why I bought it, Except for the fatal flaw, noted below
Cons:
- The lens cover blades scratch the lens
- Incredible, but true
- I compare with every G10, G11, and G12 owner I meet, and scratches such as mine are common, Canon, how can you do this, and not acknowledge it

The G12 is an excellent compact camera, with a proven 10MP CCD sensor and effective ergonomics. Fans of 'hands-on' photography will love the big chunky dials, and the addition of a front control dial makes the G12 easier to get to grips with than its most recent predecessors.
Pros:
- Good image quality
- useable results achievable up to ISO 3200 (if shooting Raw
- Accurate metering and focus
- Good JPEG resolution (though stick to Raw for best results
- Fast and responsive in use
- Excellent build quality
- Good ergonomics (extra control dial makes a lot of difference
- Lots of manual...
Cons:
- Poor optical finder (but no worse than G11/Nikon P7000
- No direct video recording button
- 24fps maximum frame rate in 720p movie mode (although many people prefer this to 30fps+
- Rear control dial can be hard to manipulate precisely
- Video function lacks finesse - no zooming or AF during recording,...

- Very good picture quality
- Low noise even in very low light

Canon PowerShot G12
The G12, which updates the acclaimed G11 , is an option for those who want better pictures and better features than a less well specified compact will deliver, but don't actually want to go the whole hog and plump for a DSLR.
Pros:
- Vast array of manual controls
- Exceptional build quality
- Tilt and rotate screen
- Accessory shoe
- Excellent image quality
Cons:
- Below average video mode
- Bulky for a compact
- Expensive

Review: Canon G12
If you're looking for a high performance camera with great image quality, you should get a digital SLR, right? Well yes, DSLRs are top-drawer picture-takers. But they're bulky and they weigh a ton.
Pros:
- Tank-like build feels like it can take a pounding
- Tons of external controls on the camera body will bring out the pro in you
- Locking down the resolution at 10 MP means it's a better performer in low light
- Very good 720p HD capture with stereo sound.
Cons:
- Even lower-priced competing models offer higher-resolution 1080p HD video capture
- Only digital zooming during video capture degrades quality
- Imaging sensor is still tiny, though other advanced compacts have gone big
- Antiquated menu system

Canon Power-Shot G12 Compact Camera
My wife gifted me this camera on my birthday and it was a good choice. I am not a professional photographer, but wanted a camera which is slightly above the average point and shoot camera . The price in India when we bought (around a year back) is around 28K INR.
