This is a sweet deal. I don't bring my expensive camera with my on vacation. I don't want to worry about the salt water and sand damaging my DSLR or my lenses. I used a waterproof point and shoot last year on vacation and the pictures and underwater video turned out amazing clear and stunning.

"Great camera"

This camera is well build, with good quality. Has good composite materials, and the rubber makes it suitable in both wet and cold weather conditions. The buttons are well positioned, and the menus are intuitive.

82 feet deep without bulky cases ; A diver's dream ; Long battery life ; Great underwater video

Bigger than my previous cameras

Canon PowerShot D30

The Canon PowerShot D30 is the newest digital compact camera in Canon's underwater line-up. Now waterproof to an impressive 25m and drop resistant to 2m, the built-in GPS system will let you know exactly where you were so clumsy.

Another unit from Canons excellent PowerShot range. Here a small unit with periscopic zoom as this is a waterproof unit and this is essential for those wanting to takes images under water. It also takes excellent dry land images.

Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Canon Powershot D30 - waterproof down to 25 meters how does this compact camera perform?

Good colour and exposure; 1080p video with sound and zoom; 1cm macro mode; 3inch screen; 28-140mm equivalent lens; Waterproof to 25 metres; Continuous shooting never slows down

Images could be sharper and more detailed; Only 24fps when recording 1080p video; Slow maximum continuous shooting speed; Lacks panoramic mode

Canon PowerShot D30

The Canon PowerShot D30 ($329.99) is, from an imaging perspective, a very minor update to the older D20 . Its lens, 12-megapixel image sensor, and image processor are the same, which is to say they're a couple of years old at this point.

Waterproof to 82 feet; Sharp 5x zoom lens; Slow motion video mode; GPS

Images on the noisy side; Slow shot to shot time; 1080p video limited to 24fps; No Wi-Fi

Canon Powershot D30 review

Canon's PowerShot D30 is a waterproof and ruggedized compact camera designed to compete with the Nikon Coolpix AW120, Olympus Tough TG-3 , Panasonic Lumix FT5 and Ricoh WG-4 GPS. To keep pace with these cameras, Canon made the D30 considerably tougher than the previous D20.

Canon PowerShot D30 Review

The Canon PowerShot D30 ($329.99) is, from an imaging perspective, a very minor update to the older D20 ($599.95 at Amazon) . Its lens, 12-megapixel image sensor, and image processor are the same, which is to say they're a couple of years old at this point. The real selling point of the D30 is its ability to survive the pressures you encounter at an 82-foot underwater depth—that's the best in this class by a good 20 feet. If you dive to those depths, the D30 is a contender for your dollar. But if you don't, consider spending a few extra dollars and going with our Editors' Choice, the excellent Olympus Tough TG-3 ($330.00 at eBay) instead; it's rated to 50 feet and is a much more modern compact camera. Design and Features The D30, available only in blue, is a bit of departure from the curvy D20. It fits the design motif of many a rugged camera, including the Olympus Tough TG-850 ($399.95 at Amazon) , by placing its lens in the top corner rather than the center of the body. It measu...

The Canon PowerShot D30 can go deep underwater, but feels pretty dated in terms of image quality and performance.

Waterproof to 82 feet; Sharp 5x zoom lens; Slow motion video mode; GPS

Images on the noisy side; Slow shot to shot time; 1080p video limited to 24fps; No Wi-Fi

Though point and shoots are a dying breed, the one thing rugged cameras offer over smartphone cameras is the ability to go places a phone can't. Though there's only a select few rugged point and shoots on the market, they bring a lot of useful features to those looking for a vacation camera that can...

I choose the D30 over all the other compact underwater cameras for two reasons: · Image file sizes are smaller, which counts when you take hundreds of photos every day; · Noise reduction has been toned down and does not create a watercolour look in your photos.
