Canon EOS 90D review: Keeping DSLR relevant

The Canon EOS 90D keeps the DSLR alive with mirrorless-like speed and autofocus

Excellent speed; Dual Pixel Autofocus; Uncropped 4K; Comfortable design; Excellent battery life

Heavy; Small buffer; Tracking and eye AF struggles

Canon EOS 90D review

Canon's EOS 90D is an upper mid-range DSLR with a 32.5 Megapixel APSC sensor, Dual Pixel AF for live view and movies, 45-point AF through the viewfinder, 10fps shooting, uncropped 4k video at 24, 25 or 30p, and a fully-articulated touchscreen.

Canon EOS 90D Review

The Canon EOS 90D is Canon's latest APS-C DSLR , and features an all-new 32mp APS-C CMOS sensor, which is shared with the new Canon EOS M6 Mark II . The use of a 32mp sensor means that the 90D is the highest resolution APS-C DSLR camera available.

32mp APS-C CMOS sensor; 4K / FullHD video without crop; 10fps continuous shooting; High-image quality; Excellent colour reproduction; Excellent 1300 shot battery life; In-camera raw editing

Conservative design; Smaller buffer than expected; Focus options are hidden in custom settings; Shows weaknesses of kit lenses

Canon EOS 90D

There's a lot to recommend the Canon EOS 90D – it's a full-featured DSLR with the speedy performance to match. The deeper grip makes it comfortable to use for long periods of time, as does its impressive battery life. And it's been priced to appeal to most enthusiasts.

High resolution image sensor; Uncropped 4K/30p video; Ergonomic grip; Joystick control

No image stabilization; Default JPEG noise reduction level insufficient

Canon EOS 90D review: Is this 32-megapixel DSLR the perfect match

Three years after the 80D impressed us as the "mid-range master" of the DSLR market, its follow-up, the 90D, continues down much the same line. No, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, maintaining that solid autofocus system, but the significant bump in resolution and burst shooting does make it an...

Vari-angle screen is very useful; Capable autofocus system for still and moving subjects; Video capture is now 4K capable; High-resolution images are miles beyond casual cameras/phones

Single SD card slot; No in-body stabilisation; Autofocus points don't always illuminate; High resolution can mean caution when shooting any moving subject; Limited autofocus options in live view mode

Canon EOS 90D: the DSLR's last hurrah

To say the camera world has changed a little in those three years would be an understatement. Mirrorless cameras now trump DSLRs, both in terms of innovation and new bodies, so is there still a place in the world for the Canon 90D

Traditional controls and handling; Excellent battery life; Good all-rounder

No image stabilisation; DSLRs starting to feel outdated; Single memory card slot

Canon EOS 90D review: A great all-rounder

The new standard bearer for the traditional DSLR – performance, usability and great image quality in one reasonably priced package

Great battery life; Quality images to impressive ISOs; Fast burst mode shooting

Lots (and lots; and lots) of competition

Good camera for the money.

Bought this canon 90d upgraded from a canon 7d mkii. It's lighter and I like the tilt touchscreen as I'm doing more landscape and different angle shots. WiFi and Bluetooth is a good feature. Frames per second is on par with the 7dmkii but not the AF .

Durable; Great Features; Great Picture Quality; Lightweight; Simple Controls

High ISO quality; Low-Quality Recordings
