Canon EOS 5Ds Review

When the EOS 5Ds was announced, Canon photographers around the world shouted a collective "Yes!" and "I want it!" You are looking at a pair of world record-holding DSLR cameras, the Canon EOS 5Ds along with its near-identical twin, the 5Ds R : As of review time, these are the highest resolution 35mm...

I ended up keeping very little of this bundle. ...

I ended up keeping very little of this bundle. I thought the I would be dollars ahead to buy the bundle but after researching, very little of it was more than dime store. I kept the body, cards, batteries, and one lens. Other than that, if you want quality, do not buy this bundle.

Who said low light is not possible with 5DS

Use a quality tripod and you will get amazing results in low light. ISO 500, F2.8 , .5sec, 70-210 L lens This camera is now my preferred for landscape picture taking over my Canon 5D Mark III.

Canon EOS 5DS review

Canon's 5D line of DSLRs has been an important one, bridging the gap between professional and amateur photography, giving enthusiasts an affordable route to full-frame shooting and pros a smaller, lighter camera to back-up their fully professional-level model.

Canon EOS 5DS review: Resolution revelation

Canon had dilly-dallied around the resolution conundrum for what seemed like an eternity. "Push beyond 22-megapixels? Golly, no way" was pretty much the message for years. And then it goes and releases a 50.6-megapixel full-frame DSLR, the EOS 5DS. And, frankly, it's bloomin' brilliant.

Hugely impressive image quality (when matched with best lenses and suitable shutter speeds

No tilt/vari-angle screen; not the best for fast-moving subjects (high shutter speeds essential

Canon EOS 5DS

The Canon EOS 5DS ($3,699, body only) is one of a pair of cameras that utilize the EF lens system, each with 50-megapixel image sensors. Unlike the EOS 5DS R , the 5DS utilizes an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) to combat color moiré artifacts, but it does so at the cost of detail.

Highest resolution in class; 5fps burst shooting; Full-frame image sensor; Dual memory card slots; 61-point autofocus system; Intervalometer and time lapse support; Sharp rear display; Solid control layout; Medium and Small Raw capture modes; 1080p video

Limited to ISO 12800; Optical low-pass filter detracts from detail; Omits in-camera Wi-Fi and GPS; Lacks built-in flash

Canon EOS 5DS review

The Canon EOS 5Ds is essentially an EOS 5D Mark III with twice as many pixels. Sure there's a number of other small but useful upgrades, many focused on ensuring the resolution isn't squandered by vibration, but there's no denying the 5Ds is all about the sensor.

Industry-leading 50 Megapixel resolution; Powerful 61-point AF system with custom presets; Bulb timer; intervalometer; varied mirror-lockup options; Enhanced viewfinder with lots of shooting information

Needs the best lenses and precision technique; Noise creeps into files from 400 ISO; No Wifi; no 1080 video above 30p; no 4k; no hybrid AF; Non-articulated screen; focus peaking or zebra patterns

Camera Review: Canon EOS 5DS

Ever since Nikon began ditching low-pass filters and pushing the resolution of its high-end full-frame bodies to 36-megapixels, photographers have been waiting for Canon's response.

High-resolution image sensor; familiar build and menu; USB 3.0; enhanced stability

Poor battery life; limited video features; low ISO performance

Canon's Megapixel leader with a huge 50.6-Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS imaging sensor, the EOS 5Ds leads the way in the high-resolution battle of DSLR cameras. Complimenting this sensor is a slew of leading-edge features that will have everyone, pros and amateurs alike, drooling over this camera.

AF and Metering are both incredibly fast and accurate; Live view allows you to shoot with the LCD; Full 1080p HD video capture produces beautiful videos; Outstanding overall image quality; Amazing detail from loads of resolution; 3.2-inch; 1.04 million dot LCD is great in all lighting conditions to...

Very large; heavy camera; Camera must be in video capture mode to capture video; No GPS or WiFi built-in; Battery seemed to go quickly during our tests; No 4K video capture; Dual card slots are SD and CF; not the same media (some may see this as positive; No built-in flash unit

Canon's 5D line of DSLRs has been an important one, bridging the gap between professional and amateur photography, giving enthusiasts an affordable route to full-frame shooting and pros a smaller, lighter camera to back-up their fully professional-level model.

Full frame sensor; huge detail; Excellent AF; exposure and white balance; Extensive features and accessories

Huge file sizes; Fast shutter speeds or a sturdy tripod and mirror lock-up essential to get the best from the sensor; No Wi-Fi built-in
