Canon EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D review

The compact proportions of the original Rebel SL1 / 100D meant it was truly novel amongst its peers, but the slightly bulkier proportions of the EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D make it feel more like a slightly pared-down Rebel T7i / 800D than anything unique.

Great Live View AF performance; Polished touchscreen interface; Easy to use; Image quality very good; User-friendly interface

9-point AF system is somewhat basic; High price – at least for now; Plasticky finish; No 4K video

Canon EOS 200D review: A solid budget DSLR

The Canon EOS 200D is a low-cost DSLR designed for people making the transition from a smartphone or compact camera. It's remarkably small and light for an SLR, coming in at around 8mm less in all three dimensions than the Canon EOS 800D.

High image quality; Responsive and straightforward in live view mode; Class-leading video autofocus

Autofocus with the viewfinder is relatively basic; Some manual controls are hard to access

A fine camera but Canon could have made things easier for us

This is a small, light DSLR with a good kit lens. It has built-in flash and a large, easily read touch screen display. Canon have supplied a camera strap, but the lack of a lead for downloading photos is inexplicable.

Compact; Build quality; Battery life; Screen size

Complicated

I might buy it again as a gift for a friend or family member

The Canon EOS SL2 DSLR camera is awesome, alone. The fact that this bundle includes 2 extra batteries (3 batteries in total), a 64 GB memory card, and filter lens (so useful) makes it even better.

Canon EOS 200D review

Canon has done well to squeeze some of its more advanced tech into this model, while keeping it friendly for beginners. There’s enough stuff here to make it a possible backup or travel model for those using some of Canon’s mid-range models, too. If you’re attracted towards DSLRs but are generally put off by their large size and bulk, this is the smallest you’re going to get. While it may not be as small and lightweight as some of the smaller mirrorless models on the market, the handling and features of a DSLR make it a nice alternative. Image quality is very good, as you’d expect from the high-quality sensor and processor combination, and by entering into Canon’s eco-system, you get a pretty-much unrivalled set of potential lenses and accessories. Overall, this is a very attractive and nicely performing model for entry-level users. It doesn't exactly set the world alight, but if you’re in the market for this kind of camera, it’s definitely a good option.

Compact size for a DSLR; Has an optical viewfinder; Good image quality in most conditions; Big range of lenses;

Still larger than mirrorless rivals; Only nine AF points;
