Canon EOS 200D II Review: Small DSLRs Are Still A Thing

We review the EOS 200D II! The popularity of DSLRs has faded for quite some time now, especially with newer mirrorless cameras being just as capable (or even better) as their mirror-equipped siblings while offering a more compact build.

Awesome beginner DSLR!

great quality for a beginner DSLR and amazing auto focus and lens. The images are very sharp and the shooting modes are great for what they are made for.

So easy to use

I brought this camera a couple weeks ago for my daughters. She loves it, it’s easy to use with guided instructions. Shots are crystal clear, she’s already captured some fantastic sunsets. Portrait shots are amazing, would highly recommend

Very good beginner DSLR

I recently made the switch from my phone to DSLRs and this camera is great. It shoots very sharp photo and video. There a lot of features but just the right amount so a beginner doesn’t get confused. The Lens is pretty average but good for the price. The 4K video is good but it does have a forced crop and is limited to 25fps which makes it pretty average but shooting at 1080p is very good.

Great for new photographers

This is great for people looking for a nice starting DSLR which is a step up from a basic basic one but doesn’t break the bank. It takes really good photos and has taught me a lot of photography.

Canon EOS 200D Mark II DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens 200DIIKIS review

Bearing the distinction of the world’s lightest APS-C DSLR with a vari-angle screen, the Canon EOS 200D slots into the manufacturer’s range of DSLRs between the entry-level EOS 1300D and the more advanced EOS 760D and EOS 800D models.

World’s lightest DSLR with vari-angle screen, Fast focusing performance in Live View, Intuitive layout of buttons and dials, Guided user interface helps beginners learn the key controls and settings

Basic arrangement of 9 AF points, Single scroll dial on the top plate

Canon EOS 200D Mark II DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens 200DIIKIS review

The compact proportions of the original Rebel SL1 / 100D meant it was truly novel amongst its peers, but the slightly bulkier proportions of the EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D make it feel more like a slightly pared-down Rebel T7i / 800D than anything unique.

Great Live View AF performance, Polished touchscreen interface, Easy to use, Image quality very good, User-friendly interface

9-point AF system is somewhat basic, High price – at least for now, Plasticky finish, No 4K video

Canon EOS 200D Mark II DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens 200DIIKIS review

If you're looking for an interchangeable lens camera that's not too big then a mirrorless model might be the obvious option. But with a whole raft of EF lenses to grow into, the EOS 200D is a DSLR with strong footing for a keen newbie to grow into a photographic enthusiast.

Tilt-angle touchscreen is great to use, Small scale and lightweight for a DSLR, High standard of image quality, Lots of EF lenses to grow into, Guided UI makes it more accessible for newcomers (with room to grow), Great battery life

9-point AF system isn't the best going (especially for continuous autofocus), Viewfinder has 95% field-of-view limits, Live view autofocus not fully accurate, Video limits to Full HD only
