Canon EOS Rebel T3 / 1100D

The EOS Rebel T3, or 1100D, is Canon's latest entry-level DSLR. Announced in February 2011, it comes no less than two and a half years after its predecessor, the EOS Rebel XS / 1000D; indeed it's such a long time in the digital camera industry, especially for Canon, that many wondered if the company...
Pros:
  • Good image quality that's similar to modern 14 Mpixel rivals
  • Quick and easy access to many settings
  • Live View and HD video recording (albeit at 720p only)
  • Supplied with decent RAW and remote control software
Cons:
  • Plasticky body with no rubber surfaces - feels cheap, Continuous shooting buffer small
  • Slows down for RAW, Relatively small 2.7in screen, Weaker popup flash than many rivals

This camera knows a lot more than I do!!

I particularly enjoy the quick response for the next picture to be taken. We have bald eagles that nest along our coastline and I like to get multiple pictures of them taking flight or landing.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
  • Good Image Quality
Cons:
  • Short Battery Life

good camera

Although this is a great camera and takes breath taking pictures, I did have one problem after 2 months of having this camera. I had a pixel burn out on it to where it showed a black spot in every picture. Luckily it is still under warranty to get it fixed because it has to do with the CMOS.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
  • Fast Shutter Speed
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • High ISO Performance
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Quiet
  • Tilt /Swivel LCD
Cons:
  • None

Camera: 5, Service Center: 0

I sent the camera with the original pre-printed registration card to the "warranty" repair center. Since this was a Christmas gift I do not have an itemized sales receipt. Canon sent me an estimate for $220 to fix a camera that was defective out of the box. Unacceptable. Zero for customer service.
Pros:
  • This camera apparently has a lot of capability but I have not been able to use it yet
Cons:
  • The camera body is so flimsy that with normal holding pressure in my right hand, my thumb could make the display go to half-brightness and flicker
  • Let up with my thumb, display works properly
  • Press right above the four way selector switch
