Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Review

Canon's Rebel SL1 prioritizes size and weight above all else, so it's missing features, but it's one of the most portable entry-level DSLRs available.

Reduced size and weight make this camera portable

It has poor battery life at just 340 shots per charge

plastic, toy like, expensive

I bought this for a friends birthday. It arrived late, thankyou Littlewoods, I tried to return it, all sorts of problems later, I decided to try it for myself. I usually use NIKON. I found this dslr to be plastic, lightweight and toylike. Not my preference. Although my kids loved it.

From OVF to EVF to OVF. My exploration of the digital world started with the coolpix 990 and the canon 20D. And after many nice and some not so nice experiences (see my gear part) I'm back in the OVF camp.

Why didn't we buy this before?

After our 33rd wedding anniversary we finally bought a proper camera! This Canon digital SLR is brilliant, light to carry, easy to use and takes fantastically clear pictures. Ease of use is vital as we aren't great with technology, but we need not have worried.

Small bodied camera - full bodied pictures

I bought this last week as a replacement for a 550d that I use for photos and videography. The 550d had a few more features but in a much bigger frame. Installed magic lantern for most of those bells and whistles and I was very impressed with the camera as a whole.

Canon Rebel SL1 DSLR Review

My Canon EOS Rebel SL1 review reveals a DSLR camera that does a lot of things well for a smaller than average camera, including good image quality and fast performance levels in viewfinder mode, all at a very good price versus other DSLRs.

Canon EOS 100D

The Canon EOS 100D marks something of a sea change for Canon as a response to the growing popularity of Compact System Cameras (CSCs). The model slots in to the company's EOS range of DSLRs – between the EOS 1100D and the Canon EOS 600D / EOS 700D – and bears the distinction of being both the...

Good design including rubberised handgrip; Creative filters feature live preview; Strikingly small body

Similar price to the Canon EOS 700D; AF system only features one cross-type point; Small design means small battery

Didn't think I could use one of these

I've seen family members use SLR and DSLR in the past and wrote it off as too hard to do. Use of this Canon SL1 camera is like school. You can start at the very beginning with LOTS of help and move up in gradual steps to use of it by hand with lots of accessories.

dvd cd and paper instructions; "just right" size for smaller hands

might be "too small" for larger hands

First digital SLR

Very early on with this camera, but we have always had good results with Canon products and this one is following suit. The controls and touchscreen can be figured out quite easily, and offer a lot of flexibility. The automatic modes work very well.

Intuitive controls Lots of options Good results Nice package

Tendency to overexpose in automatic
