Canon EOS 100D DSLR Review

The Canon EOS 100D is the smallest DSLR available with an optical viewfinder, and appears to be Canons answer to DSLR-style mirrorless cameras, being roughly the same size as the Micro Four Thirds Panasonic Lumix G6 , as well as roughly the same price, although the G6 features a swivelling touch...

Excellent image quality; Excellent colour; Excellent noise performance; Very good build quality and design; Optical viewfinder; Q-button gives quick access; Smallest DSLR available; Great touchscreen; Improved live view focus speeds

Relatively high price; Relatively large lenses; RAW not available in some modes; 4-way controller could be better implemented; Shorter battery life (due to reduced size battery; Lacks panoramic mode; Wi-Fi would have been nice

Canon EOS 100D review

When Canon came to update the EOS 650D DSLR it did something not entirely expected: while the inevitable EOS 700D surfaced, so too did the brand new EOS 100D, a shrunken DSLR some 25 per cent smaller and 28 per cent lighter than the DSLR. A whole new category is born. Well, sort of.

Small size; autofocus is swift; no compromise to image quality; live view responsive; touchscreen; engineering marvel in many respects; battery life lasted well

Small size; less advanced AF system than 700D and similar Canon models; less featured than 700D and similar models; viewfinder settings not particularly bright; some viewfinder AF point bleed

Canon EOS 100D

The Canon EOS 100D marks something of a sea change for Canon as a response to the growing popularity of Compact System Cameras (CSCs). The model slots in to the company's EOS range of DSLRs – between the EOS 1100D and the Canon EOS 600D / EOS 700D – and bears the distinction of being both the...

Good design including rubberised handgrip; Creative filters feature live preview; Strikingly small body

Similar price to the Canon EOS 700D; AF system only features one cross-type point; Small design means small battery

Canon EOS 100D

The Canon EOS 100D (called the Digital Rebel SL1 in North America) is the smallest and lightest APS-C DSLR ever made. The 18 megapixel 100D / SL1 offers a ‘Hybrid CMOS AF II' system with 80% frame coverage, a 3" ClearView II capacitive touchscreen LCD screen, a 63-zone metering sensor, 9 AF points,...

Canon EOS 100D review

Canon has miniaturised the digital SLR with the EOS 100D. If you want a small camera, but absolutely have to have a proper viewfinder, this is your best bet at the moment. It's surprisingly usable given its tiny dimensions, although its 18-megapixel sensor is getting on in age.

Canon EOS 100D review

A good and compact Canon SLR, but at current prices it's overshadowed by its 700D sibling

Does whay it should - nicely

The camera and lens have been reviewed elsewhere in great detail.

I use an EOS-6D as well as the EOS-100D. Much of the time the EOS-100D is preferred because of its weight and size.

Great Features; Great Picture Quality; Lightweight; Simple Controls

Entry level excellence.

This camera is my first DSLR and I have had it for just over half a year. It has been a pleasure to get to grips with the device, which has been easy to understand and learn about photography. It's small size makes it perfect for travel, the quality of images is a huge step up from your smartphone.

A fantastic DSLR for amateur photographers

A fantastic DSLR for amateur photographers - I would definitely recommend this. Great kit lens and a telephoto lens. Good value for money.
