The EOS Rebel XS ($699 list price) is the entry-level model in Canon's digital SLR lineup. The camera is essentially a stripped down version of the Rebel XSi: it has fewer pixels, a slower burst rate, and a smaller LCD than its big brother.
Pros:
- Very good photo quality
- with minimal noise
- Compact body by D-SLR standards (though it's not for everyone
- Good kit lens
- with image stabilization
- Dust reduction system
- Fast performance in most respects
- Live view with contrast detect AF
- magnification
- and a histogram (though see issues below,...
Cons:
- Rebel XSi only costs a little more, Small, slippery right hand grip, Very slow contrast detect AF in live view mode
- nearly useless in low light, Live view not available in all shooting modes, LCD and optical viewfinder both on the small side, Sluggish RAW format continuous shooting

Canon EOS 1000D + 18-55mm IS lens
Want to move up in the world of digital cameras ? You need a Digital SLR my friend, and Canon offers up a top class beginner friendly model right here. Read on for the low-down…
Pros:
- If you want to tick off features, Canon's entry-level EOS 1000D camera offers Live View, sensor cleaning (to avoid dusty spots on your images) and an impressive image stabilised 3x zoom lens
- Image quality from the 10-megapixel chip is great, even in low light
Cons:
- Build quality leaves a little to be desired and the 3 frames per second burst mode won't win any high-speed shooting mode award
- Keen snappers might find the lack of a spot metering mode disappointing, too

Canon EOS 1000D
Having just reviewed the excellent EOS 450D (29-08-08) I was more than chuffed to be offered the very new EOS 1000D . At this time of year everyone wants to tell you about what they have to offer for Christmas are you listening Santa?

Canon EOS 1000D Review
The Canon EOS 1000D is Canon's response to competitors' models - think Sony A200 or Nikon D60 and you're on the right track. However, a response is one thing, but it's certainly not the conclusive answer that Canon should provide.
Pros:
- Low-noise images
- Introduces Live View
Cons:
- Price point doesn't make sense
- Poor kit lens
- Low spec build and cramped layout
- White balance is frequently off

Canon EOS 1000D
The 1000D marks the introduction of a brand-new line of EOS models for Canon, coming in below the range that's culminated in the 450D. The body shape is slimmed down compared with the 450D and looks more like the old 350D, released in 2005 (web ID: 79985).

Canon EOS 1000D review Review
The Canon EOS 1000D reflects the narrowing gap between compacts and digital SLRs. With its lightweight build and 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, the dSLR is an unintimidating camera. Will its compact-style features pack enough punch to sway buyers from other entry-level shooters?
Pros:
- Live view
- Bright display
- Stabilised kit lens
Cons:
- Budget feel
- Average performance
- Unadventurous specs

Canon Digital Rebel XS Digital Camera Review
The EOS Rebel XS is Canon's newest entry-level SLR. Based on the Rebel XSi, it's marginally cheaper and less powerful, with a resolution of 10 megapixels versus 12 for the XSi, a smaller 2.5" LCD screen. It arrives into an already crowded marketplace, full of affordable, starter SLRs.

** Conclusion** The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a decently priced, entry-level SLR that scored well across our entire panel of tests, especially with regards to low light and dynamic range.

Canon EOS 1000D
While expensive when compared to its rivals own versions, the 1000D is a well priced entry-point into Canon's own EOS range, and is certainly a good DSLR to start out with
