This is a very good lens. I just opened it yesterday and I won't go as far as to say I am thrilled, but I am very encouraged. The first thing that strikes you about the lens is the build quality.

Fast; accurate focus; Best built EF-S lens to date; No lens creep - YEAH; Center sharpness; Its aesthetically a good looking lens; Very useful zoom range; CAs seem to be well controlled

Only 3.5 at its widest and drops to 5.6 as you zoom; Wish it were 2.8 for most of the range, but I tend to think the cost would have been prohibitive for an EF-S lens, If you use the lens indoors and want fast photos, you'll need a flash, you'll need a hot shoe flash to minimize the vignetting at...

Excellent Glass

I love this lens. Consistently sharp. This will always be my chosen walk-around lens. I have it on my camera nearly all the time, other than when I need my Macro, longer Zoom, or my 50mm prime.

Consistent Output; Durable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Heavy; Lens Creep

Not perfect, but the best possible solution if you want a single travel lens.

For years I've been trying to get a lens that will be enough for almost everything when I travel, and deliver good quality at the same time. The thing is, the 18-55 kit lenses are perfectly usable and have a useful range, so it turns out it is not that easy to get something significantly better.

Perfect Main Lens

I purchased my EOS 550D as a body only to use this as the primary lens (rather than the 18-55mm) and I have not regretted it at all. The extra width provides a better working space when taking group photos or need that little bit more of the landscape, as well as a decent amount of zoom that your...

Superior build quality; Reliable; Durable; Easy to use

The Canon EF-S 15-85/3.5-5.6 IS USM , ( buy from Amazon ) was introduced in 2009 as a replacement for the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM , ( buy from Amazon ). In addition to the extra 2mm of focal length on the wide angle end of the range the lens was optically redesigned, adding 2 more aspheric...

Images seem sharp

I have a 50D and had been using a 28-135IS Lens. I thought my pictures looked great but I needed a lens that could go wider so I choose the 18-85. Picture look great so far (had less than a week).

A great lens that suits a wide range of indoor and outdoor uses.

A great lens. I bought this as a carry-around lens for general use on my EOS 550D. It easily outperforms the kit lenses, has a very handy range from quite wide to slightly zoomed, and is excellent in low light.

Worth every penny !!!

This is an amazing lens! Absolutely love it. Using as a "walk about " lens and love the extra at the wide angle end from my previous 18mm. Quick to focus and photos are clear, sharp,& colors vibrant. As close to an "L" lens you can get.

Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction

Fantastic lens!

"If this lens had a constant aperture it would be about as perfect as a zoom can get for my uses. (I shoot a lot of climbing, i.e. environmental portraiture.) This is my favorite zoom lens. It covers an excellent focal length range, and the 24 mm equivalent wide end is my favorite part!

Best lens I own

This combo of 15 to 85 is great. It's only f 3.5 but what do you expect for a 15-85 with everything else? Manual focus is easy and slips once you hit the stops but you feel it.

15 to 85 is perfect for me; It's also macro up to 1.2'; Has IS (image stabilizer) and ultrasonic focus motor; AND it's a Canon lens which IMHO are great quality

It's a bit heavy for my T2i Canon body so the balance is a bit off but when I put it on my old 10D, it's nicely balanced; Cost as much as the T2i body; Not enough cons to loose an egg
