It's just a joy to use, and very sharp. It's also a significant step up from the Tamron 70-300 VC, you'll have no worries shooting wide open at 300mm with this one! Perfect on APS-C. Also, do not underestimate how important portability is, it's very compact at 70mm.
Sharp throughout zoom range at f5.6, colour and contrast fantastic; Auto focus is amazingly fast, IS is superb; Very compact, not overly heavy; Metal filter threads; Zoom lock means hood can be stored in reverse orientation and still removed without zooming the lens out
None, well, maybe price; The relatively slow aperture and extension on zooming are not cons, in lens terms they are necessary design compromises to make it the size, weight and focal length range it is
The image shown is of Canon -EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L lens and not Canon -EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 so don't be confused like i was when i received the lens. Its a bit heavy using a tripod would b good and the lens becomes useless in low-light. Over-all its a good lens for a beginner with a good zoom.
Canon's EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS USM brings L quality to this popular zoom range. You get tough build quality, quick and quiet USM autofocusing, full-time manual focusing, effective image stabilisation and great optical quality in a barrel that's comfortably shorter (albeit fatter and heavier) than...
A bit too expensive than its tamron counterpart but they differ in quality. Amazing picture quality is given by this lens. Perfect zoom and sharp and fast focus. A nice lens to buy.
For an amazing telephoto zoom, with terrific image quality and amazing build quality, look no further than the all around performer that is the Canon 70-300L
Amazing build quality; Stunning image quality; Fast and accurate AF; Rock solid IS
Canon doesn't provide a tripod collar with the lens; you have to buy it after
This lens is simply awesome. It checks every box in the image quality department: it is sharp, has good contrast, essentially normal distortion for such a long zoom, and very little to no chromatic aberration (that I could notice on the shots I took so far).
Sharp as hell; good contrast; hefty; quick and accurate AF; pleasing bokeh
A tad slow; comparatively heavy; sizeable; and somewhat expensive
Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification Canon have given the 70-300mm range an L-series makeover and as a result this lens sports silent autofocus, with full-time manual override, weather sealing, optical stabilisation and tougher build quality than you might normally find on a lens...
Excellent build quality; Very good sharpness that is consistent through the range; Low CA; Low distortion; Effective optical stabilisation
May seem expensive for a f/4-5.6 zoom (although the premium is probably worth the extra in this case
"In this zoom range there are many lenses to compare and it wasn't an easy decision. For me it came down to this lens or the 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and after trying both in the store I went with the 70-300 .
Love using this lens. It really has increased my overall use of my DSLR. I am able to take photos from a distance and really capture a natural shot since I don't have to be close to the object. Overall I am very happy with this lens. Would recommend to any starter using a DSLR.
Durable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Strong Construction
