The lens is sharp throughout its aperture range, and like all of Canon's autofocus lenses, has an internal focus motor for fast, quiet operation. The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II lens being one of my favorite lens I own, I tought of upgrading it to this one. Is this one better? Undeniably, but considering the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II cost about 25% of the price of this one, the difference in build quality, USM and picture quality doesn't justify paying...

Very nice lense for the price. Amazing low light performance. If you have to choose between this and 50mm 1.8 do not hesitate and get this one. it is way better and for less than $ 200 difference you get much more for the money.

I use this for taking picures of my children. It allows me to stay close to them while shooting which every parent or child photographer knows is vital to getting them to stay in place. The bokeh is really excellent especially considering the price.
