This is my second of these. It is better value, better build, and picture quality than the basic 50mm Canon lens. It's a tough little thing and I use it about 80% of the time compared with my other lenses.

Had this lens for a few weeks now and I find myself using it more and more. It is a great all round lens delivering high quality images and for street photography it's a must have. Good value for money.
Worth every penny, chose this instead of 50mm prime. its fully worth of 2K extra money... suggest you to go for this.. it produces stunning pics at f/2.8 compared to 50mm's f/1.5
There was a lot of hype after Canon's release of the 40mm pancake lens & I wondered if it was worth getting this inexpensive prime lens versus saving up for L glass for 10X or even 20X the price & made the leap when the price dropped.
"This is a fun and sharp little lens. I own the 50mm f1.8 as well, and I prefer the 40mm. Why Better build quality, the 40 is similar construction to my 18-135mm STM, better image quality than the 50, quieter auto focus, and a slimmer profile.
This lens takes great portraits with its sharp image result at very affordable price. It (auto) focuses quite good for portrait but not macro. It's extremely light weight and it's build is good. Although the side of the lens has printed the word Macro, it cannot take true macro image.
Pros: Small form factor Pretty Sharp Pictures Cons: None Other thoughts: I am using it on both Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 80D... and the pics are coming out clean. I would say that this is a great lens for street photography. Doesn't add much weight to the camera body.
Bought this impressive little lens with a Canon SL1. Makes my camera feel even smaller. Pictures are amazing and portability is great. Good at night shots and even better for portraits. Focus is not as fast and quiet as the new18-55mm STM that comes with the SL1, but its still a great lens.
I am using this lens with an SL1. This is a great camera and lens combination. I have the 18-55 STM which is also very good, but the size, image quality and small aperture of the 40mm makes it an excellent all around carry lens.

I bought this lens to go with the RP body (with adapter). Lens and adapter is shorter/smaller than the smallest RF mount lens offered presently. RP hasnt arrived yet, but on my 5DmkIII Im getting results far beyond the price of the lens. Almost perfectly sharp, corner to corner, wide open.
