Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM is a very capable but also very pricey ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that will appeal most to landscape, architecture and reportage photographers looking for a lightweight and responsive lens with the added advantage of image stabilisation for low-light hand-held work.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM review

You could forgive most photographers for thinking that a 16-35mm lens would be intended for less-than-full-frame cameras. After all, a focal range such as this would provide a sensible, if slightly odd, 25-56mm on an EOS EF-S APS-C body.

IS great for low light images

Not a lens that I use a lot but it is great for that wedding photo with a difference - the group photo or a close up of the couple with a great background. Also good for interior shots where flash is not permitted

Canon EF 16-35mm f4L IS USM

Canon's EF 16-35mm f4L IS USM is an ultra-wide zoom that's compatible with full-frame DSLRs. It's the successor to the EF 17-40mm f4L USM, losing a little on the long-end, but gaining a tad on the important wide-end, while also adding the benefit of image stabilization.

Superb wide angle zoom

Upgraded from Canon's 17-40 L and the difference in image quality improvement is really noticeable. Images are pin sharp right into the corners even wide open. The IS is handy for low light too. Got some superb night shots of New York with this lens.

Light, stable & sharp

It is hard not to be happy with this lens, between its IS & durable yet lightweight build, it is the best wide angle for action sports, landscapes and general purpose shooting. With it being F/4, I've never found it to be a limiting factor and couldn't be more happy with its edge to edge sharpness.

After owning the 16-35mm f/2.8 for 5 years and shoots a LOT of landscape and real estate images, I was intrigued by the great reputation this new f/4 lens was getting. I finally pulled teh trigger, sold the 16-35/2.8 and bought this, and the rumors are all true: the image quality on this lens is...

I am shooting more architectural and interiors lately and I found a deal on a clean used F4/IS. I've found the images to be sharp, nice contrast and colors.

A nice combination of focal length, speed and price; When you add IS, this lens is a bargain; I believe the F4/IS is as sharp, has comparable color and contrast as the F2.8II but not at the level of the F2.8III
