Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L USM II

Rating 4.6 59 reviews

The Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L II USM has a lot to offer. It is water resistant and has a wide angle. With improved image quality, you can use to shoot professional grade photos. It comes with three high-precision aspherical lens elements. The circular aperture delivers a natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. With this lens, you also get a ring type USM, internal focusing, and new AF algorithms for better autofocusing.

With the Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L II USM, you get high quality images with excellent color. This lens does an excellent job of capturing natural colors and reproducing them.

This lens is well constructed and worthy of its L Series designation. The best part is that the lens is lightweight.

The large 82mm filter size is a new feature. High quality filters offer many advantages. The larger end helps to reduce the comfort of holding the lens a little. However, it delivers better image quality and is worth it. The focus and zoom rings are easy to use and the perfect size.

This lens is weather sealed to protect against moisture. The inside of the lens is gasketed, but the filter is needed to completely seal the lens. The lens remains the same size, but the inner barrel expands from 28mm from just 16mm.

Typically Canon L lenses have an 8-blade diaphragm. The Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L II USM only has seven blades. The circular shape of the 16-35 L II's blades help create desirable round-shaped OOF highlights.

The f/2.8 maximum aperture is perfect. It is fast and delivers the desirable results. A variety of lenses add different parameters for shooting wide open. This lens provides exposures that are wide open and can remain the same over the full focal length range.

Anyone looking for a high quality lens will love the Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L II USM. It is fast and accurate. The best part is that you can use it to take photos in the rain or underwater. There is a lot to love about the Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L II USM.

A newer model Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 L USM III was released in August 2016.

"OK for weeding"

in my point of view wide angle lenses tend to be an essential, if not fairly niche, part of a photographer's kit. The distortion caused at the extreme edges of the frame can have both a positive and negative effect on the results of an image, and thus should be used sparingly and selectively I'm not...
Pros:
  • Quality
Cons:
  • Angles

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM ($1,699 direct)($1,775.00 at Amazon) is a 2.2x zoom lens, compatible with both Canon APS-C and full-frame cameras. Even though its zoom range is limited, the change of field of view from 16mm to 35mm is a drastic one. The lens is sharp throughout its zoom range, though you'll need to stop it down a bit if edge performance is a concern, and there's some distortion that goes hand-in-hand with an ultra-wide zoom. It's more expensive than the competing Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED($1,775.00 at Amazon), but it is a bit wider and it captures more light at every focal length. The lens is rather squat, measuring 4.4 by 3.5 inches (HD) and weighing in at 1.4 pounds. The front element is large, there's an 82mm filter thread, and the lens doesn't change length when zooming. The lens hood is included, and is reversible so that the lens won't take up a ton of room in your gear bag. The zoom ring is at the base of the lens, and a large manual focus...
Pros:
  • Ultra-wide field of view

Cons:
