Excellent for macro photography
[...]The lens itself feels well built and quite sturdy. The 2.8 aperture is a very welcome feature as this allows for relatively low light work and the minimum focussing distance means that you can get very, very close to your subject.- ,
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens: a very sharp lens, and great for macro shooting and portrait ...
if you want to shoot macro you need this lens, if you want to do portraits get this or the 100mm f2- sharp
- good for macro and portraits
- all other lenses aren't as good or as cheap as this one
Wonderful macro lens
pros: produces very sharp images and excellent color rendering cons: nothing found yet
Excellent lens
This is a great lens for a great value. I added this lens to my newly forming collection and LOVE it. Extremely crisp, clear and vibrant pictures.
Better than expected
I chose this lens over several more expensive models based on test reports, user reviews and, above all, price. While it may not have the build quality and weather sealing of those more expensive models, it still feels quite well built.

Best lens I have used
I love this lens. Since we got it, it is almost always on my camera, It takes amazing portrait shots and sharp macro shots. Amazing. I strongly suggest that this lens be in everybody's lens kit. I would only replace it with the L series lens if I have oodles of money to spare.
GOOD MACRO LENS
I AM USING THIS MACRO LENS ON A SONY NEX 7 CAMERA WITH A METABONES ADAPTER FOR MACRO AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY. I FIND THE LENS TO BE STURDY AND WELL BUILT. BOTH PORTRAIT AND MACRO PHOTOS CAME OUT IN VERY SHARP FOCUS. THE SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD FOR MACRO CAN GET VERY SENSITIVE.- Consistent Output
- Durable
- Nice Bokeh
- Rugged
- Strong Construction
- Slow Focus
So glad I bought this.
I considered this for a long time as it's not cheap. I nearly settled for the 60mm macro lens but online reviews suggested that this was a bit more flexible. I've used it hand held for macro work in my garden so far and am really pleased with the results.- Consistent Output
- Easily Interchangeable
- Quick Focus
- Sharp Focus
- Strong Construction
