Most users won't be disappointed – though sharpness is average, fringing control is top notch.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
There are virtually no criticisms of this lens that we can come up with! The build is a little short of L quality, but is still well built. The optical performance is first class with no nasty or disappointing surprises and as for the handling, it's a pleasure to use.
Pros:
- Good build quality
- Very good optical performance
- Nice handling with no extending front element
Cons:
- A little pricey
- but you get what you pay fr
- Still no hood included in the price

A 100mm macro lens has long been the standard for photographers using full-frame cameras. The magnification of the 100mm lens provides sufficient working distance from most subjects and does not add a lot of weight or bulk compared to shorter macro lenses.

Super Crisp Lens
I am a wedding photographer and this lens does a great job at details, like rings. It is so crisp, and you can get in close. It is great!

Possibly the most fun with a lens
The Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro is an amazing lens. As a regular lens, it excels. The 100mm length is great for portraits and as a telephoto, although it gets a bit long on the crop sensor consumer cameras where it equals a 160mm.

Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8 Macro USM
When it comes to macro photography lenses, the Canon's offer is more modest than e.g. the offer of Sigma. It doesn't mean, though, that we have no choice at all. For full frame bodies you can use a Canon 50 mm f/2.5 EF Macro, a Canon 100 mm f/2.8 EF USM Macro and a Canon 180 mm f/3.5L EF USM Macro.
Pros:
- excellent image quality in the frame centre and at the frame edge at all apertures
- negligible chromatic aberration
- distortion at practically zero level
- very low coma
- moderate astigmatism
- silent and relatively quick autofocus
- good build quality
Cons:
- autofocus could have been more accurate
