Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens Review
The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens has an excellent focal length range that includes the longest focal length found in a Canon zoom lens - 400mm. This long focal length and focal length range combine with very good image and build quality to make the 100-400 L one of the most popular...
Canon 100-400mm L IS USM
This is Canon's longest zoom lens and is categorised as one of their L range. The lens has been around for some time now, earning itself a somewhat mixed reputation amongst digital photographers that didn't arise in the days of film. We take a look at this phenomenon.- Good contrast and colour
- Good AF speed that is quiet in use
- Nice focal range at acceptable 3:1 ratio
- Holds its value well
- Awkward manual focus at longer focal lengths
- Known problem with bearings giving up the ghost
- Wear in the bearings may well cause deterioration in performance
- May drag dust into the sensor
Canon EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS USM Full Review
The Canon EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS USM is Canon's premium telephoto zoom lens. It competes with the EF 300/4L IS and the EF400/5.6L prime lenses as a telephoto and with the EF 70-300/4-5.6IS as a wide range telephoto zoom.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM is the longest telephoto zoom lens currently manufactured by Canon. First released back in late 1998, the lens currently retails around US$1,600 (as of October 2010) and is typically used for wild-life and sports photography.
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM review by Jaylmac
In the L series, I only have experience with the 70-200 f2.8 and this 100-400 lens. I originally wanted the 70-200. My husband (thinking bigger numbers must be better) bought me the 100-400 instead for my birthday. This turned out to be a blessing rather than a mistake.- Clear fully zoomed
- Not good for low light
The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens is a very good performer with few loopholes. You will find the resolution of the lens on a very high level throughout the zoom range with only a marginal performance penalty at 400mm.
It's about how you use the lens and what you use it for. I've got a ton of amazing shots with it. Great image quality.
- The reach, the quality of the photos with the reach
- I even got great close up photos of insects with it
- It's definitely worth the money you pay for it
- slow lens speed 4.5-5.6...but you get more than what you pay for
so far so good
First impressions good- well packaged within a quality case - only a short and sharp shoot so far but very pleased with the quality of the early morning images - little heavy for a every day shoot - quality tripod a must - and the sliding zoom takes a bit of getting used to.............
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM Lens
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is another great lens from canon. Once again though this is an expensive lens and most people may not use it to its fullest potential although I could be wrong when it comes to that as well.
