Canon Ef 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6 Is Usm Lens Review
I purchased this lens over a year ago from unbeatable and it certainly was on price. If you are thinking about whether or not to buy this lens, 100% buy it. I am a pro watersports photographer and there isnt a day that goes by without it slamming an image into the back of the basket that makes me...- The ultra clear water droplets at 100metres and the incredibly sharp images that make water look like mercury!!
- Cant use a converter on auto
- but 1.4 can do

Unusual push pull zoom action but it gives great control. This is a great lens for the wildlife enthusiast.

Great lens for wildlife photographers
This is the first lens I got with my Canon 30D and now I use it on my 7D. For wildlife photography the reach of a 400mm is twice that of the 70-200 zoom. 400mm is 640mm with a smaller sensor - smaller sensor is like having a 1.6x tele converter. IS is great.- zoom range.
- Push, pull zoom
- Maybe f 5.6 at max zoom
Canon Lenses Rock!
This lens was the best investment to date for my photography equipment. I have only been back in to taking pictures now for a year or so. I researched a little on line to see what would be good for taking nature pictures.- Consistent Output
- Easily Interchangeable
- Quick Focus
- Sharp Focus
- Strong Construction

Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens: Best all-round bird and wildlife photography lens at this pr ...
A great lens for entry-level DSLR bird and wildlife photography.- Excellent image quality and versatile zoom range for wildlife
- Quite a heavy lens
- and f5.6 at the long end means high ISO is necessary for handholding at times
Outstanding Lens But A Little Pricey
I bought this lens due to Canon's "L" lens reputation and it seemed like a logical addition to my Canon 5D Mk II body with 24-105mm F4 kit lens to give me a wide range of zoom. This is an outstanding lens!- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Strong Construction
- Cost
Heavy but excellent.
Delivry by J&R was very quick. The lens is fantastic. I'm sorry I waited a year to purchase it. Though I've only had it a week I can already tell that it will work for me personally better than the shorter length Canon telephoto zoom lenses - which are themselves great lenses.- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Nice Bokeh
- Phenomenal lens
- Rugged
- Heavy
Super lens
On 2 occasions I have made 500 + shots with this lens and my 40D in 3 hrs. Rarely does it give me a bad image. The problem with birds is when they are in behind limbs etc. The autofocus will focus on the limbs in front. Manual focus is slow and the bird may be gone- Great birding lens
- Crisp well focused images
- Originally thought the f/4.5-5.6 might be a problem with light, however when I shot birds it is always outside and it has not been a problem
- I don't use a monopod and the IS does great.
- With a 2X extender the auto focus does not work and this makes it 800mm
- Trying to manually focus at 800mm makes the focus ring very coarse
- As a result I take a few shots and refocus and take more in case the focus was not optimum.
