Canon imageFormula DR-M1060

If you have to scan multipage, tabloid-size (11-by-17-inch) documents fairly often, but don't have particularly heavy-duty scan needs, put the Canon imageFormula DR-M1060 document scanner ($2,995) on your must-see list.

Handles tabloid (11-by-17 inch) and larger paper; Duplexer; Extraordinarily fast text recognition for scanning to searchable PDF files

Raw scan speed is slower than the claimed speed in our tests; Speed for scanning to searchable PDF format is uneven on several programs

Experience with Canon DR-M1060

(1) The scanner works fine and scans fast. (2) When scanning a large document, say 100+ pages, something inside makes "grinding" noises. I expect something is overheating. Leaving the scanner idle for a while resolves the problem. (3) The plastic housing seems a bit flimsy.

Canon DR-M1060 review

The Canon DR-M1060 does lack a few of the more advanced features (direct network support, barcode detection as standard) that you might get from the highest end models. However, those do tend to be considerably more expensive again. For larger businesses needing simply to convert capacious A3 bundles, this model offers a mix of price and performance that's simply unmatched on the market at this time.

Canon imageFormula DR-M1060 Review

If you have to scan multipage, tabloid-size (11-by-17-inch) documents fairly often, but don't have particularly heavy-duty scan needs, put the Canon imageFormula DR-M1060 document scanner ($2,995) on your must-see list. Bigger than most desktop scanners, but surprisingly compact for one that can scan at tabloid size, it offers duplex (two-sided) scanning, a fast scan speed, and the ability, with some programs at least, to scan to searchable PDF file format as quickly as it scans to image PDF format. The DR-M1060 ($1,646.00 at Amazon) is broadly in the same category as two other scanners I recently reviewed: the Kodak i3200 Scanner ($5,708.50 at Amazon) and the Kodak i3250 Scanner ($3,890.20 at Amazon) , which is our Editors' Choice tabloid-size document scanner for a small office or workgroup. Compared with the Kodak models, however, the DR-M1060 is not only less expensive, but it's designed for notably lighter-duty use. Both Kodak scanners offer 250-sheet automatic document fe...

If your small office or workgroup needs to scan up to tabloid-size (11-by-17-inch) originals and even larger, the Canon imageFormula DR-M1060 document scanner is a strong contender.
