Modern Warfare aims to bring the series back to its roots and Infinity Ward delivered a cohesive experience catering to series veterans and newcomers alike. A boundary breaking single player and refined multiplayer experience make Modern Warfare a worthy addition to the franchise.

Seems like we are getting a reworked engine on a familiar yet reliable franchise. Buckle up for more multiplayer and the return of a strong story driven campaign. Hate the franchise or love it the Call of Duty always has something for someone regardless of what the bandwagon says.

If we look at the array of most recent releases from the franchise – such as last year’s Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 , we had been inundated with crazy jumps, awful weapons and some fad-style game modes. We had also lost the campaign or just been presented with an awful campaign.

A passable entry in the long-running series, the latest Modern Warfare is polished but lacks creativity. It’s certainly more of the same as a return to a once-beloved sub-series. Sadly, it fails to invigorate and impress on the same level as the groundbreaking Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare .

Despite my many complaints, I still think it’s easy to get 100+ hours out of this game. For me, that earns the $60 price tag. The campaign is a guaranteed 5-6 hours of visually-satisfying chaos, which may deserve a replay on the hardest difficulty.

Modern Warfare is the most astounding Call of Duty I've played since World at War. But they haven't gone as far they could, in the campaign especially. The multiplayer is outstanding, as always, with the slightest modifications eking out big results.

Overall, though, despite the disappointing co-op modes, Modern Warfare is a strong return to form for Infinity Ward. High quality, old-school multiplayer compliments an absolute riot of a campaign, and both boast true best-in-class production values. This feels like a new start for Infinity Ward, too - back to its roots, but backed up by the best tech in the game right now.
