The CAT S62 Pro Rugged Smartphone Review: Robustness burdened by big compromises

Perdurable. The S62 Pro from CAT is intended for professional use. The flagship smartphone from the S6x series offers the highest IP rating and an integrated thermal camera, which features the most advanced sensor yet. As of writing this review, no other smartphone offers such a sensor. Read our extensive review before you decide whether or not you should buy the CAT S62 Pro.

The S62 Pro is a good rugged smartphone, which has a very robust housing that can withstand a lot of...

good build quality; highly durable; good warranty coverage; thermal camera; good mono speaker;

slow storage; big bezels; poor positioning of the buttons; old SoC; battery life could have been better; display brightness (for a work phone);

Definitely tough.

So far, I have no regrets. I wanted a tough smartphone with plenty of storage and features and it definitely has that. It is my first non Sony Xperia in about 10 years so waterproof is not new to me. I would have liked a headphone jack, now I need to buy some Bluetooth ones and the screen was unusably sensitive out of the box until a system upgrade. The Camera is perfectly acceptable, not mind blowing good but it takes very good pictures. The torch seems to be quite yellow. The thermal imaging is excellent and while I thought it was a bit of a gimmick, has been quite useful. It is thicker and heavier than pretty much anything else out there but when compared to a normal phone with a rugged case, it is basically the same. My dash mount needed to be tightened a lot as the phone kept tilting under its own weight. Volume is good, the microphone is fairly directional, if I am not paying attention to where I hold it, apparently I can be hard to hear but I am normally using a Bluetooth earpi

Game Changing

I previously had a Samsung phone, was really easy to transfer everything over and have hardly noticed operating difference. The ruggedness of the Cat phone is great, have already dropped it a couple of times and no scratches or cracks like previous phones I've had. Battery life is amazing, I get 2 days out of each charge without a issue have even done 3 days between charges. I wish these where available a few years ago with the FLIR camera would have used it heaps through my trade.

Good rugged phone

Very solidly built phone. Improved thermal camera is good for a quick check, however still not equivalent to a proper unit, and very wide field of view.
