Disappointed with my first Brother Printer

After years of buying Epson printers I decided to switch brands because of Epson's ever increasing efforts to squeeze as many ink purchases as possible from the Consumer. I selected Brother because they have a good reputation however while the MFC-J430W printer produces good quality print and is...

Brother MFC-J430w Review: Low Cost, Limited Features

The 4-in-1 MFC-J430w falls in the middle of the series at a price point of $99.99 so it lacks some of the high-end features we saw on the MFC-J825dw and MFC-J625dw . What it does offer are print, scan, copy and fax functionality as well as print speeds up to 10 ppm in black and 8 ppm in color, a...
Pros:
  • Fax functionality
  • Wireless Connectivity
  • Mobile printing
Cons:
  • Photo quality
  • Lack of features

The $99 MFC-J430W has many features important to small and home offices, and it prints good-looking documents respectably fast. But $50 more could land you a much more full-featured printer. Choose cautiously.
Pros:
  • High-quality prints
  • copies
  • and scans
  • Fast
  • Entry-level price
Cons:
  • No automatic duplexer
  • Somewhat high cost of consumables
  • Slow processing when printing pages in reverse order

Brother MFC-J430W

This is a multi function unit (it has fax) and it can connect either by USB or Wi-Fi. In fact I used both with equal success. I did however have a failure as no matter what I tried it refused to feed photo paper in any way.

Brother MFC-J430w

Unlike most $100 inkjet multi-function printers (MFPs), the Brother MFC-J430w ($100 street)-also available through some sources as the MFC-J425w-leans much more toward being office-centric rather than being a home printer.
Pros:
  • Prints, scans, copies, and faxes
  • WiFi
  • Better than par text quality
  • Fast speed for business applications
Cons:
  • No wired network support
  • Slow photo speed
  • Low paper input capacity

Brother MFC-J430W

Brother's range of personal inkjet all-in-ones all look suspiciously similar, but the company manages to differentiate them by careful choice of features and prices. The MFC-J430W sits just above entry-level and is a little more austere than some of its pricier siblings.
Pros:
  • Well-featured software bundle
  • Easy to use
  • ‘inverted' ADF
  • Wireless connection with WPS
Cons:
  • Pale colour photo copies
  • No photo card readers
  • Small LCD display
